When you said "this is where I started, I took a combined course" that resonated with me. I sucked at math after highschool. I went to university at started from the very very beginning. Now I'm a math teacher.

I want to emphasise that the most important thing with algebra at any level is to DO THE PROBLEMS. It's no good just knowing the rules, you have to do the problems, not just to make sure you understand the rules correctly, and to make them stick in your mind. But the main reason is that it gets you used to seeing very quickly how one formula or equation can get transformed through a number of steps. Why is that important? Because when you study calculus (or anything beyond basic algebra), the books aren't going to go through all the steps one by one. If you can't quickly see how one step is equal to the previous, you're going to get lost and frustrated. Really, the principles of calculus are not that many and pretty easy to understand. What makes it hard for most people is the sheer amount of algebra involved. So get good at it first and you'll have a much easier time.

I’m telling you, you need to check out “Elementary & Intermediate Algebra” by Sullivan, Struve, and Mazzarella. It’s so good and covers everything in this book and more. And it’s affordable! Thanks for great videos like this. Really helps keep up the motivation.

Thanks to you i started studying mathematics again. I bought blitzer's "introduction & intermediate algebra", its been amazing so far.. book review and recommendations of study paths are my favorite videos of yours.. again thanks for your hard work.🎉

I love this channel, I never though there might be that amount of good books about mathematics. In the academia, people is currently far more interested in publishing papers instead of publishing books to succeed a tenure track or attaining promotions, so I’m still wondering how does it works in the mathematics area. By the way, it would be nice a channel about mathematical reputable journals. Furthermore, I’d like to watch videos about mathematical optimization books.

Thank you very much. This is actually the guideline and book I'm looking for!!! I really want to re-actived my applied mathematics skills. There are plenty of books and courses. I like the approach to start with 30min a day guided by a book. Courses and channels Like your helped me to master my class on the university. Especially Prof. Gilbert Strang! Thank a lot for your channel and the motivation I have got due to you!

I've never been amazing at math beyond algebra I'd say. In high school I took computer science because of my friends and was told not to because I hadn't taken calc yet. "Nah, it'll be fine my friends can help me." Suffice to say it didn't go over amazing. The few basic math classes I took in college taught me little or nothing "everyone failed, congratulations you just failed less so you actually passed."

Now, I'm looking to get certified in SysML for am remembering what my HS councilor told me about that comp sci class, hesitant to say the least.

Would following your prescribed path (probably starting with a book like this because it's been over a decade) be a worth the effort to try and set myself up for success? I'm already taking online business type classes, so it's not a stretch to add new learning.

“There was a footpath leading across fields to New Southgate, and I used to go there alone to watch the sunset and contemplate suicide, I did not, however, commit suicide, because I wished to know more of mathematics.”
Bertrand Russell

“Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty—a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show.”
Bertrand Russell

“What is best in mathematics deserves not merely to be learnt as a task, but to be assimilated as a part of daily thought, and brought again and again before the mind with ever-renewed encouragement.”
Bertrand Russell

Hello Professor. Are you able to do a video on generating unlimited practice problems with Wolfram Problem Generator?

Can you make a video about the benefits of using one book series to learn. (Pros and cons maybe)

Also I think shorter chapters make it easier for students to learn, understand, and successfully complete practice sets. What’s your opinion?

Hello Sir, I have been studying math books. But I have never seen someone like Ron Larson. His books are one step ahead of other authors. Please try to make a video with the author. Because he is teaching his books

Which do you think is a deeper fundamental to all of Math; Trigonometry or Algebra?

4:00 in the morning? Only mad-dogs and Englishmen should be up at that hour! Anybody who wakes me up at 4:00 had better be doing it because the house is on fire or something, or there will be heck to pay.

Since Ted kaczynski is in the news could you make a video about his math dissertation. I think the algorithm would pick up on it if you click bait it a little. No harm there.

A quick math session in the morning is great, because when you get stuck, you will not stop thinking about it for the rest of the day xD

I think this book would be great if its cheap simply because I recall the "Self-check" Boxes being super important when going through this.
