I love glycolic acid for face but it's a pass for underarms ❌

The use of glycolic acid on underarms is generally not recommended for individuals with darker skin tones due to the potential risk of hyperpigmentation or darkening of the skin. Darker skin tones tend to be more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is the darkening of the skin that occurs after inflammation or irritation.

Glycolic acid is an exfoliating agent that can help improve skin texture and tone, but it can also cause irritation and increased sensitivity, especially in sensitive areas like the underarms. When applied to darker skin tones, the risk of triggering hyperpigmentation is higher, as the melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) in darker skin are more reactive.

It is important for individuals with darker skin tones to be cautious when using strong exfoliants like glycolic acid in sensitive areas such as the underarms. It’s advisable to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional who can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific skin type and concerns.

Maybe its not for everyone, but its a lie that it doesn't work. I'm a black girl and it definitely worked for me. There are rules to using the glycolic acid. Use it 3 times a week AT MOST. Don't do it daily, space out the days you use it. Apply a few drops of the glycolic acid to a cotton pad or even just your fingers and apply it to the darkened area. A little goes a long way. Wait 5 minutes and moisturize the area (don't use Vaseline or aquaphor). And you NEED to do it at night, DO NOT apply it during daytime because the sun will burn your skin. Do it after sunset please.
A little darkness in those areas is totally normal, but having those areas be 4x darker is usually caused by something and some people just want to fix it to feel more confident.

Your knuckles: 🟤⚫
Her knuckles:🟠🟡⚪
Your elbows: 🟤🟤⚫
Her elbows: 🟡🟠🌸
...
Girl you normalizing it because you got that but the one who suffers from uneven skintone knows the pain! Fr the problem isn't dark the problem is why the skintone isn't even when many people do carry a smooth elbow and good knuckles, even when I was a child I agree that I didn't had the smooth underarms but atleast it wasn't looking gross for sure, the skin tone was even and now I don't know why? But
My armpits now: 🌗🌓🌗🌓 fr I'm not even kidding at this point, my sister told me not to shave it leads darkness but nowadays I'm seeing people saying that don't use wax use laser treatment or shave 👽 wth!!

Edit: a bit of darkness is normal which is a shade ahead to your skin though so don't take efforts to remove that it's normal and not even noticeable so chill
But I don't have that I got 3x darker tone in few parts of underarms (compare to my actual tone)

If you have serious high pigmentation I would suggest y'all to get your sugar level checked since it's common in diabetics to have hyperpigmentation

Darker skinned people can react negatively to kojic and positively to glycolic as well. You can inform the public without absolutes like “never use…” and still get the message across effectively. The kojic alternative is nice but tips on how to introduce something that may be harsh to you as well would be better for next time.

i used this for 4 months with no issues almost DAILY once before sleeping, and it actually brightened my underarms i was so happy, then suddenly it caused me baddd itchiness for weeks on end and i assumed it was some food related but i decided to stop using it and around 2 weeks later my itchiness stopped, but i genuinely need another solution to dark underarms

what a great lesson. A dermatologist once told me to use that glycolic acid...but I refused!!! It's a good thing I didn't buy it, because I also have caramel colored skin. Thanks for telling us !!!!

People keep applying things outside their body but many fail to understand that food habits, lifestyle, mental and internal health is equally important for glowing and healthy skin.
