I also recommend using brush soap (the master brush soap is amazing) to shape the bristles after use and allow it to dry into the brush helping to A: keep bristle shape B: condition bristles deeply keeping them soft and strong for longer time period and C: when wetting the brush from your rinse jar before starting a painting, it adds a small amount off the soap(which was dried to keep bristle shape and condition) it adds a small amount of that soap into your rinse water which really helps clean for color changes while painting: it’s great!!

Thank you for tip about masking fluid, wanted to order it.. When it comes to drying I place tissue under and on brushes when held horizontally, they dry a little bit faster for me, and I store them in diy brush cases when fully dry so I can easily carry them around and bristles are protected if they fall (acrylics, oils, watercolor ones and some misc ones I use for other )

Edit : keep up the good work :)

Thank you for these great tips. I’m a self-taught painter and I didn’t even know there was a difference in brushed. I do keep a separate set of watercolor brushes aside from my acrylic set. I love your videos!

A few years back I bought cheap watercolor brushes that I've not stored in a good way and also mixed painting with them with ink and watercolor. In other words, they aren't in great shape but still they serve me. I clicked on this video to learn more about to to care for them and for the new brushed I'll eventually purchase. I tried the hot water tip as a last resort for the brushes I have right now and it seem to help! Thank you!

First Aid kit tips for sad brushes! Been there, done that! Very useful advice for anyone who doesn't want to cry over some very expensive brushes. Also about the paint chipping of the wooden handle of the brush. You can also slightly go over it with sandpaper, so that the chipped varnish falls off completely and then just paint it with a new varnish - make sure it is the non-sticky kind that dries hard completely. I think the washi tape is also a good idea, so long as the sticky part of it doesn't annoy you while painting! Thanks for all the useful information! 🙏🏻🖌🎨💧

i tried the hot water trick, it worked. A brush that was damaged beyond repair is essentially as good as new! THANK YOU!👏👏👏👏🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Glad this is still up (I'm seeing comments from 4 years ago). I was just about to toss a brush from the travel set I love and decided to watch this. I've been painting awhile but never saw the hot water hack for brushes. It worked and as soon as the brush dries it looks like it will be fine to go right back in the travel set of brushes with a lovely new point. Thanks makoccino!!

Very informative, thank you! My pet bugaboo is that one little hair that sticks way out from the rest. Often it's a loose one, but boy can it mess up a project when it decides to ease on out. I think the most popular no-no is the old "Leave the brush in a glass of water" routine. We had an art teacher that would go ballistic if she came in and saw a brush submerged in water. Then too, this woman would dip her brush in the coffee she was drinking. We never mentioned it to her, but she did it all the time!

i've notice that marsiglia soap works very good for cleaning guache, watercolor and acrylics. works even on makeup brushes!! it's a natural conditioner and it's very cheap :3 you have to try it

Awesome video, very helpful. I didn't think about not fully submerging the brush for rinsing, lol. What I've found really works for stiff brushes is mixing hand sanitizer and a splash of rubbing alcohol together, and swishing the brush in that for a few minutes. It cleans the gunk out from deep in the bristles, making them malleable again! Works great for acrylics.
