Just wanted to let you know. I watched your video a while back, and then tried out your tip for keeping lettuce and celery. All I can say is THANK YOU!! My head of lettuce stayed fresh and green for 5 entire weeks, as I shaved off a little at a time, when I made sandwiches. 5 Entire Weeks! I was struck dumb and I've been telling everyone I see about your tip! The celery tip worked to perfection too. I just can't thank you enough. Boy are you saving me money! :D

I am a senior citizen living on social security. Nothing that I purchase can go to waste.
I put packages of baby spinach in the freezer and just take out what I need for a smoothie or to chop for an omlete.
I wrap celery in foil after cutting off the end....or chop and freeze.
I cut the end off a romaine head... loosen up the leaves and place in plastic containers with a paper towel...I have had it be crisp 3 weeks later.
When I buy berries...I freeze them right away.
Thanks for these helpful $ saving tips!

I love these tips. I'm single and I don't go through food that fast and it ends up being thrown out. Which is a crime.
It helps a lot especially bread which I don't eat fast enough, same with potatoes and most other veggies. Some stuff I can freeze such as bread and pull out when craving toast. And I've learned that there are many other foods, such as avocados you can freeze. I was skeptical but it works.

I find that tearing lettuce into nice usable sizes, (never use a knife, scissors etc.) and then placing into a large Zip lock bag, after adding a paper towel at bottom and then at top. I take air out by simply rolling the bag to just leave minimum space for the lettuce. Just a method I use but I can make my lettuce eatable and delicious for close to a month.

I always remove the core of the lettuce by giving it a sharp rap on the counter and pulling it out before putting it in a bag.
I also use a plastic knife if I need to cut it as metal makes it go rusty.
The lettuce lasts for weeks.
Great show.
So enjoyable to watch.

After cleaning cilantro and parsley in the salad spinner I put paper towel (usually four in a row still connected) and roll the parsley or cilantro in the paper towel and then put it in a ziplock bag. It will last WEEKS this way. Roll a little bit of parsley or cilantro into the towel then add more and roll on. Keep adding and rolling until all the cilantro/parsley is rolled up in paper towel and then into the ziploc. You will be amazed....I was !

Here’s a tip to help all your berries stay fresh longer!
When I bring the berries (any & all berries ) home I put them in a bowl covered w/ water and add a splash of white or apple cider vinegar and let sit for ten minutes. Drain and lightly rinse, then let them sit out and air dry for a while. I then put them back into the container they came in or a glass container and put them in the fridge. They will last a good week or two with no mold! 🍇🍓

Thankyou so much. I just bought a big head of ice burg lettuce today and I will store it this way from now on. I buy and use a lot of celery so I'm going to look at that next. Very helpful Mike!

Confirming the plastic bag idea....yep, it works. I also get fresh lettace from the market place (no bag) and I put them in a gallon mason jar and vac/pac. I've kept lettace that way for 1 MONTH...saves me tons of $. Love this channel.

I've been using the "human vacuum" method to remove air (just like you demonstrated) for 50 years, ever since one of my friends' father did that to preserve bread in its bag. I started doing it when ziploc bags were invented and it has really helped prolong the life of any food you store that way. I've recently started using one of those hand-held vac sealers with the special ziploc bags and when I do lettuce, I vac just until but before it squeezes the lettuce and this has also worked great. Thanx for the great learning vid!!

I roll my lettuce in paper towels which helps but the vacuum idea is priceless. Never thought about sucking out the air in the baggie. Love it! Thank you. 😀

Wow! I love your tips. I was so frustrated by my lettuce turning pink, then brown, before a few days in the refrigerator! I eat salad a lot because I love the crunch. But I have never been able to keep it longer than 2 days before it is just gross. Thank you So much for the solution to not having to buy lettuce every couple of days! I LOVE your channel, and will share with all my friends and family.

Someone had commented about keeping cucumbers fresh. Wrap each one individually in paper towels. Place wrapped cucumbers in a plastic bag. I use grocery store bags. Place in drawer. Works great!!! Keeps for a week or more!

For pre mixed salads. I put a new paper towel in the bag everyday, keeps it crunchy & lasts about 5-7 days longer than normal.
