I used to work in a few cafes back in the day... We used alot of shredded Lettuce for Sandwiches, Chicken Rolls, Kebabs etc I would cut & shred 16 heads of Lettuce everyday.

If you leave the Lettuce in the water for more than 4 days it will actually go soggy.

I do this at the start of every week for my kids lunches.

let me know if you try it.

My lettuce lasts longer than that in the fridge without drowning it

You can also sit it in a bowl with a bit of water at the bottom. Treat it like you would a bunch of flowers. Take leafs off as required.

The best way is actually to put it in a brown paper bag. I read that in a book about preserving food. It was a very basic book, straight to the point w all veggies in it. The ways they did things before technology changed the world

It actually works and it’s not soggy. I was wondering why my aunts salad was so damn good last Sunday, when I asked she said she just soaked it in water.

And after 5 days soaking it in the water, we'll serve water flavored lettuce?

I get a lot longer than 5 days and I don't have to do any of that. My local grocery store actually has these nice bags to put them in when you bring it home keeps it fresh for a couple weeks

I've always used the water trick but what does the spoon do? I'll definitely try it if it stays better longer! We love making subs and tacos at home so we use Shredded Lettuce often. Only stays good for me around a week. 🤷‍♀️

Use a ceramic blade knife to cut lettuce to keep the lettuce from turning brown.

You have to change the water daily tho otherwise it gets stagnant and you end up with the same yellow lettuce. The best trick is to invest in one of those cheap ikea salad spinners and just spin and pat any excess water with a paper towel.

Water is the enemy here. Properly dried lettuce will not go yellow as fast.

Salad will normally last 4-5 days without soaking it in water and completely depriving it of taste and crispiness 😂

I disagree with water storage too, but at least the guy is using the whole head.
