Labas! Hola! 안녕하세요! You don't need a lot of money or a formal classroom setting to learn a language... you can do it at home! I've been self-studying Korean for almost 2 years (and also brushing up on the Spanish skills I picked up in high school hehe) and I wanted to share some tips I've learned along the way!

We'll start with how to get yourself ready to learn a new language - how to pick a language, find the right resources, create a routine, and ensure you stay motivated. And then I'll share 11 fun ways to practice a language that cover all 6 basic parts of language learning - vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking!

I hope this video helps!! Let me know what language you are currently studying or want to study :)

P.S. Don't roast my Lithuanian at the beginning, my grammar skills are stuck at 4 year old level lol.

I hate how school language teachers only teach you to say things like "I have blue eyes" and other things you'll never need to say

Whenever I lose motivation I just think about it how freakin amazing it would to speak a whole other language, to connect to people on a whole different level. Idk that's enough to motivate me, the fact of being capable to speak another language...

I taught myself English at about 12 years old, mostly because I moved to a private school and had never had an English lesson in my life, which caused me to struggle a lot, eventually having to take extra classes. After getting the hang of it, I was determined to become fluent. I started with Duolingo but soon quit and moved on to the approach that truly helped me. Since I'd already learned the basics in school, I started watching American shows on Netflix, the first one was Fuller House. At first I didn't understand much, so I'd see every scene several times, with no subtitles, English subtitles, Portuguese (my native language) subtitles and finally with no subtitles again. I'd write down expressions and words I didn't know and repeat them out loud. Not once did I pick up a grammar book, but in order to learn how to properly use the Present Perfect, for example, I watched English YouTube videos. I would talk to myself all day and look up whatever words I didn't know how to say in English. As far as vocabulary is concerned, I used flashcard apps. I realized I had become fluent when I hardly ever had to search for words while talking and could understand 80-90 per cent of everything I listened to, which took about a year and a half. From that point, I kept on practicing my listening and speaking skills and focused on sounding natural, linking words in a sentence, using more contractions, etc. About a year and a half ago, my parents decided to sign me up for actual English lessons to do some brushing up. It turns out I got to skip several stages, which would be equivalent to 5 years of studying. Through the course, I've brought my writing and grammar skills to a whole new level. I'll be taking the CAE exam this year in June after finishing the prep course. That was a long comment, but I just wanted to share my experience and possibly motivate the language learning community. Bear in mind: with dedication and a positive mindset, you can do anything.

I'm currently learning Korean and Spanish and I've found that watching little kids shows in your target language, preferably not made for learners but for native speakers, is super helpful. They speak pretty slowly and clearly and the vocabulary is easy. I like to watch them without any subtitles so that I can focus on pronunciation and trying to understand what is going on more than trying to understand every word.

I'm wanting to learn nine languages:
- Japanese
- Korean
- Chinese traditional and simplified
- Indonesian
- German
- Greek
- French
- Spanish
I mainly got my inspiration from my mother, she learned four languages back when she was younger, she wanted to be a translator, but due to taking care of me and my siblings she decided to let her career go, she wants to help me and my siblings achieve our goals, and live our lives to the fullest!
