Well, by the rules Episode 9, Obi Wan could have killed Vader in the Kenobi series and all they would need to do is update the opening scroll in Episode 4 with the sentence, “Somehow Vader returns.”
😁

I think leaving someone you love for dead is worse than just killing them.

At some point there needs to be mercy for someone, whether you love or hate them.

Leaving them for dead is one of the most cruel things you can do.

I don't think he sees him as Anakin by the end of it, when he says "Goodbye Darth" before leaving he's finally accepted that his old padawan is dead and won't ever come back (well, he's wrong but it's not like he knows the future). He never adressed him as Vader or Darth even once before, hell he never even uttered the word Vader iirc, thereby refusing to aknowledge his very existence as that would mean accepting Anakin's death.

To me the reason he didn't kill him is twofold, first there's a world between killing your opponent in the midst of battle and killing him in a cold blooded manner and second his duty as a jedi is no longer to fight and restore the balance. That was true at the end of RotS but no more, now it falls upon Luke and Leia's shoulders, the next generation. Like you said killing him wouldn't accomplish anything, another would simply take his place, it's not that Vader's not a threat because he defeated him twice, it's just that there's no point in killing him at that moment in time.

Nice I also believe that when Vader said I am not your failure that was full anakin but Vader caught him before he could say master that’s why he goes full Vader voice when he says obi wan instead

He could no longer effects fight back and according to Jedi beliefs he cannot kill him. Plus he was a brother to him, killing him could've turned him from the guilt.

Obi wan didn't want to redeem Vader. He wanted Luke to kill him in the Original movies. Yoda is the only one who hints that there might be another solution for the end of the empire. But does not say a word.

I think its becuase obi wan is an angel, I hear the deep space pilots have spotted them.

The true reason is the writers knew they needed to have them both alive, but couldn't find a better way of writing the show without having the pay-off of that bloated (yet poorly coreographed and copied) fight scene at the end. So they simply didn't motivate it. Period.

I don’t think he will ever truly have it in him to kill Vader; due to Vader, deep down, being Anakin.

Obi wan went against the Jedi teachings of non-attachment. He had an attachment to Anakin. That is until Vader said that he killed Anakin and how Anakin is gone, etc. now he’s free and can now see qui gonn jinn. That’s my synopsis of that event anyways.

Great explanation, especially about the inquisitors.

It’s pretty simple, Vader/Anikan is not the major threat to the galaxy, the Emperor is.

He won the fight and Vador stopped attacking him. Seeing Anakin again he couldn't kill his friend so he just left feeling sorry. He probably felt bad enough making Anakin end up this way but he had no choice.

Im so conficted with that scene. I wish obi wan didnt win but i liked the emotional feeling of him seeing anakin/vaders face. Ughhh god damn it

Anakin is like a drop out that followed a "youll get rich" guru who doesnt really give him training.

The reason Obiwan doesn’t kill Darth Vader is because Darth Vader has to be alive in A New Hope, Empire, and ROTJ. That’s the only reason.

Somehow they should have added the bit where Obiwan tried to kill Vader but he was saved due to someone else's action or they would have made the fight 50/50 partial injuries to both parties

I feel like Obi Wan didn't kill Darth Vader because his feels Anakin is still in their around all of the hatred and pain of past even Padme said their still good in him

Because it was in the script. But I do wish that the Emperor's Royal Guards showed up and helped Vadar escape. That would have been epic.

He can't kill someone whose already dead sometimes knowledge may cloud your judgement and emotions can hamper your goals unfortunately that is what being human is all about making mistakes and having feelings something that can't be tolerated by the perfectionist even at great personal risk
