"Your arrogance blinds you" Greatest quote in star wars history (even though its not the full quote). Certainly applied to this fight.

I've lost track of how many times people have referred to Obi-Wan Kenobi as the perfect Jedi. Everything about his fighting style, his approach even to warfare, even to the woman he loved, was all overshadowed by his commitment to the Jedi order and the force itself.

I think the real trick was him saying "It's over, Anakin! I have the high ground." Obi-Wan knew him very well and was aware of his arrogance. He knew that he could be goaded into a disadvantageous position because Anakin/Vader would take the bait without caring about the odds.

Everyone including obi wan himself always down plays his skills with a lightsaber

So I’ve never seen anyone mention this but I always thought the “ high ground “ reference was a kinda play on how Obi Wan defeats Darth Maul. I always felt like it was something of a highlight moment in Anakin”s perception of Obi Wan and how a little brother might try to use a moment of triumph of their older brother as a stepping stone to show how they have surpassed them. It seemed to me that Anakin was going to beat Obi Wan in a similar fashion to how Obi Wan defeated the one who defeated his master Qui Gon Jinn . Just a thought

Midichlorian counts only point to POTENTIAL. So Anakin was POTENTIALLY far stronger than Obi Wan. But during that battle they were evenly matched. Because it's not like Anakin had spent hours working on his force abilities. He was a SWORDSMAN and BOTH of them had been shaped, and sharpened by constant fighting during the Clone Wars side by side. Also, Obi Wan had a master who always told him to stay in the moment, to be mindful of the living force so he was perfectly in tune with it during the fight. But Anakin foolishly and arrogantly saw Obi Wan and the Jedi as "weak" and Kenobi's style as purely defensive, which it was - BUT - Anakin's rage and his desire to kill his former master blinded him to the fact that Obi Wan himself had literally come to Mustafar with one goal in mind, to END ANAKIN'S LIFE. Obi Wan doesn't get enough credit. I can't think of any Jedi of his era who can say that he'd defeated two Sith Lords, then beat one and killed the other in the rematches. He also took out Grievous who was a Jedi-killing beast of a cyborg whose tech allowed him to move faster than the eye could see and faster than any Jedi according to the ROTS novel. Obi Wan was NOT a dude than any SMART Dark Sider should take lightly in any way.

I think Obi Wan did not fully let go of Anakin until his second to last duel with Vader in the Obi Wan TV series. Before that, Obi Wan did not know that Anakin/ Darth Vader survived Mustafar until the TV series began, he did let go then but not fully enough. When Obi Wan learned that Vader survived, those feelings of attachment and emotions during duel on Mustafar (you mentioned) just reignite again and return. In the Obi Wan TV series duel, that was a emotional duel because Obi Wan presented the same emotions that he had during Mustafar if not less. When Obi Wan said "Goodbye...Darth", that can be argued he has let go of Anakin for good. By the time of their final duel on the Death Star, Obi Wan has already long accepted Anakin is gone for good and no attachment to Vader anymore.

Obi is a master of low ground. Defeats maul when he is way below. Defeats anakin when he jumps above him.

Darth sidious also stated that kenobi did his best lightsaber duel performance ever because he saw anakin as an Armageddon to the galaxy and a sith . Obi wans goal from the beginning of his training was to destroy the sith so this was the time he didnt held back and broke jedi rules

They knew each other’s style too well due to sparring with each other all the time.

The novel of ROTS is one of my favorite SW reads, and ROTS my favorite SW movie.

Kenobi fights with intelligence. Anakin fights with brute force.

I have always had thought that diffrence between Jedi and Sith in combat is that Jedi goes in battle with clear goal in mind, when Sith other hand crave combat and enjoy it thus having feelings and emotions in play.

To me this just says that Obi-Wan always knew how to keep himself in a good head space while in a lightsaber duel.

They should make an alternate timeline where Darth Vader defeats Obi-Wan, gets fully trained in the dark side by Sidious and has a battle between a full powered Sidious vs a full powered Anakin.

That revenge of the Sith alternate game ending is wrong because Anakin wanted Sidious to teach him the ways of the darkside so he could save Padmé.

So it would be a cool thing to see. A sort of alternate scenario that could be seen in one of the mirrors in the world between worlds

The only reason Obi Wan bested Anakin is that he used forbidden pocket sand. As Anakin did his flip over him he flicked a hand full of pocket sand that he had kept on him just incase Anakin ever got out of hand. With out the pocket sand Anakin would have sliced Obi Wan in half . Or what you said works too.

Obi wan Kenobi is an example of someone who just keeps at it until they become a master. They might not have the most natural talent, and they struggle more along the way, but just due to sheer will and training they become amazing at something. Also Kenobi had a strong connection to the force despite having a low midi-chlorian count because he had faith in himself and in the Jedi in general and the shock of Anakin falling to the dark side set him into a determination. And even when they fought he still loved his friend. Which I think Anakin can sense so that's why Kenobi is able to beat him in fights because Vader's weakness is memories of the love he had for his friends etc... If vader is cold and full of rage then he's unbeatable. And in the new show when Obi Wan Kenobi says I'm sorry for all of it. I think Anakin really had a cathartic moment with his old friend. But he tried to cover it up with the psychopathic "I killed anakin skywalker" which just shows how depressed and full of rage he is over killing Padme.

The reason he was able to beat anakin was because he had the high ground

In the Novel Obi Wan let go, of himself to be one with the force when he fought Grievous. He learnt that in this moment.

Obi wan is the living embodiment of Hard work always beats talent. Anakin/Vader is more superior but ego and cockiness and over confidence will lead you to destruction no matter how talented or you have potential among the rest of most people.

I've wondered about this. Why couldn't Obi Wan just force push Anakin down into the lava after he cut off of limbs?

SKYWALKER.
