I always think it’s because what he wants to kill is vader to release anakin, but then the moment he realized anakin was truly gone and what was left was only vader, he gave up on the hope of bringing his brother back. And also a nice touch is from the last moment when obiwan says goodbye to “Darth” not anakin

I know it’s not canon, but in an edit of the series… right before obi wan would have killed vader, obi wan heard the voice of qui gon ginn saying “he’s still the chosen one, he will bring balance” and that’s why he chooses to leave. I like that version, makes more sense.

Vader was beaten, but still alive and able to fight. I believe that Kenobi couldn’t risk that small chance of being killed bc that’d mean Luke and Leia not having a protector and teacher. It’s another duel of the fates

The actual reason is because even though he could have killed him he knew, no matter how deadly Vader was it was not the way he chose as a Jedi, and he will not chose it now

It already broke cannon. Leia, in episode 4, says that Kenobi might know her because of her father in the Clone Wars. Not metioning all the events of the show, also, vader in episode 4 said that "When I left you I was but the learner, now I am a master." Not metioning the 2 fights they had inbetween.

As neat as some of the scenes are in Obi-Wan, there is no tension. Even if by you've started from episode 1 and worked your way though canonically, Vader is such a big name, he couldn't be killed off. A 5 year old knows this.

No shit, it's not like this wasn't painfully spelled out in ALL the movies. The very first mention of Anakin in SW at all is "He was a good friend". Literally every appearance of Kenobi (OT and prequels) he loves Anakin, even after turning to Vader.

so now we know obi won didn't finish the job 2x's and Vader went on to kill thousands. great job obi won your bond with him was so much more important than all the dead.

What’s cool is that in the show Obi wan was only able to remove the left side of Vaders helmet to reveal anakin. And in Star Wars rebels Ashoka was only able to remove the right side of Vaders helmet. And the only person that was able to fully reveal Anakin from Vader was Luke

It's actually just because the writing is bad lol. Instead of setting up a situation in which Kenobi can't kill Vader for some reason - perhaps a squadron of troops arrives (remember, Vader directed an entire star destroyer to follow Kenobi) - and Kenobi flees so he can survive and protect Luke, Kenobi inexplicably leaves Vader alive after 1) minutes earlier in the episode stating that either he or Vader would die that day and 2) after explicitly stating that Anakin is gone and Vader is all that exists.
It's just bad writing and scene setup lol.
