I appreciate that you bring up the novelization and Obi Wan's thoughts on why he didn't kill Anakin. The part that's been the most telling for me is when he acknowledged that he wasn't "feeling merciful." If he had killed Anakin, it may well not have been out of mercy, but out of vengeance and rage for everything Anakin had done. Obi Wan was an extraordinary Jedi and held to their beliefs, but with all of the pain, grief, loss and anger he had experienced over the past few days, this could have pushed him to the dark side.

you know, I say this every time that if there was no High Ground no magma place just a simple plain. field Anakin Skywalker at his prime / Peak as a Jedi / Force user before his fall to the dark side and transformation into Darth Vader would have defeated and even killed. Kenobi my friend, you know, I'm right.
