I had repti-carpet for my bearded dragon when I first got her, and I hated it. I always made sure I thoroughly disinfected it and washed it really good, but it was such a pain. And her nails would sometimes get stuck in it. Im so glad I got rid of it.

I used to use reptile carpet for my leopard gecko, can confidently say that I hated it. His toes and especially his teeth would get stuck in it, and it was an absolute nightmare to clean. Have switched to eco-earth and both me and my leo love it!

So I have mixed feelings on the reptile carpet. *TLDR: Reptile carpet is okay short term, bad in the long term, not good for reptile toes.* I do not use them, but I work at a small reptile shop that does. Roughly half the tanks are bioactive and half are fake. We use reptile carpet a lot for animals that we go through pretty quickly, like baby beardies, leopard geckos, and some snakes. The reason being that the enclosure must be disinfected thoroughly before the next reptile moves in, making it very expensive to completely replace substrate every time one of them sells. We never recommend reptile carpet for substrate when we are selling a reptile. We also use it for some of our breeding cresties and leopards, though I am not a fan of that because I find it's not good for their toes.

I went to a “museum” that “rescued” a leopard gecko. It had a bowl, hide, and heat rock 😡 I was honestly scared to say something 😳

I used reptile carpet once for my elderly gecko as she was finding walking over her previous substrate too difficult in her old age. But she was constantly getting her toes and nails caught in it. And when she would go for food she would end up stuck on the carpet fibres meaning she often had to let go of her food. So I changed to Leo life for her and that was just perfect for her 👌

Ah this is actually quite useful. I plan on making a background of expanding foam on my tank and since I’m not super into getting additional specialty supplies for my gecko I don’t really know what I should use. When I got my leopard gecko I was getting very basic supplies and stuff, and I’ve had her for almost a year now and I feel like she deserves an upgrade finally. Like she seems like she wants to climb more, and explore.

Another problem with reptile carpet is someone’s leopard gecko ripped it’s claw on reptile carpet. It’s rare but it’s possible
