Motivation & Mental Pitfalls as a composer

Motivation & Mental Pitfalls: I often talk about how long it took me to ditch my part-time job and live solely off my music. It was 7 years after school – that was 6 years ago. A few times, people have asked me how I stayed motivated, usually saying things like, "I've been trying 'for' 3 years now and I'm still not making it – I'm losing steam/motivation". I have a clear answer to that, but it might not be what everyone wants to hear:
You're gonna get frustrated sometimes (probably a lot, actually). You'll feel insecure and question your choices sometimes, but I've never lost that burning desire to make music. No matter how good or bad things were going, I always knew this was the most amazing thing I could possibly imagine doing.
If you have to, find another job. Without a crazy passion for making music, the "sacrifices" you have to make won't be worth the rewards. Because I know without a doubt that making music is what I love most in life, I've never had to "stay motivated."
While it's great that it finally "worked out," that wasn't always guaranteed. With so many talented composers and musicians out there, it can be really tough to stand out. Don't do it if it's all about eventual success. Fame, money, and popularity are (maybe possible) nice side effects that might or might not happen someday; it should always and at all times be about the music itself.
