Soooo, Mr. Tiny Tom Logan, you're telling us that you went in there and managed to get mostly improved performance while improving thermals and power draw? You do realize that this demands a step by step guide, right?

It seems like you're the only one with such a complete data on ECO mode. Thanks for that!

Thanks for the review Tom. I have my tea ready!

Best video till now for 7000 i like u emphasize in the cool eco mode that most of us will use..

Nice review Tom! Going to be jumping on board with these new CPU's as my 4690k has served me well but I think it may be time to say goodbye. If I get in on this socket early then I think there's value in it, as you can chuck another CPU on 4 years down the line of they support it for as long.

Keep at it, you absolute legend.

All of a sudden the 5800x3d looks like a great processor with only 124w power usage. umm AM5 rethink, I want low temps and power usage. These new processors are not offering that.

great review as always, thanks for all the great info. in the market for the 7700X, but glad I am waiting until November to buy...time for any initial launch bugs/updates/etc. to work their way through. will be looking forward to your motherboard reviews!

I got on the ryzen train at the start for AM4 because my old I5-2500k was getting a little long in the tooth, this time round I think I'll skip or even maybe wait for the final version with all the kinks worked out, Internet cookies are all good but triple choc ones are so much more healthy for you

Thanks for the review! What I'm gathering is if you're in normal mode with the 7x series and your CPU is sitting at 95 degrees, it's leaving performance on the table. I think a good video would be finding what is the minimum cooling solution for each processor to get them to sit even 1-2 degrees below 95 - i.e. when the CPU hits it's power draw limit or other performance constraint.

Awesome video Tom. In proper TTL fashion: let the mouth run loose and hope that the brain can keep up. I've missed these videos. Let it roll. :)

Thanks TTL. I don't know how many bored dogs will watch this, but my rabbits sure like your reviews!

Very interesting CPU's, but I'm just not sure about the cost for the upgrade. Currently, a total upgrade (CPU, Mobo, RAM, cooling) will set me back about $2300 Australian for the 7700X. The same kind of upgrade for the 5600X cost me about $1400 Australian two years ago. Obviously, the performance increase over the 5600X at 1080p is just insane, but I don't game at 1080p, and the benefits of a total refresh just don't seem all that cost effective. I think I might just save my pennies for a 4090 or whatever AMD has in response (which I hope is better and cheaper - but unlikely). Great review though, and the information on the Eco mode is something that I have seen very few, if no other reviewer mention. That eco mode is definitely an interesting option, and the performance seems not that diminished. But on price vs performance, Zen4 is just not that impressive. Thanks again Tom, another very informative review!

Would have loved to see the 5800x3d in the benchmarks. Since everyone is looking at it

Got to the end finally, was at Uni till 6 doing requirements engineering so that was fun. Think for now as I'm now a full-time skint student I'll have to skip this gen sadly, not because I don't want one I do I do, I just can't right now. Great review as always Tom, thanks very much.

For those worried about the melting point of soldier as one of the scares of failure.
The melting point of most soldiers used in electronics can range from around 361.4 'F to 1145 'F or 183 'C to 618.33 'C. Those melting points are set by the overall silver content in them, meaning the higher the percentage of silver in the soldier the higher the melting point in most cases. So no way 95 C causes soldier to flow or break down. (Not that Tom said soldier had a low melting point or even implied it, I'm just putting this info out for those who wondered).
The overall electronic parts used in modern day computers are able to withstand well above 95 C for extended periods of time without issue.
The temps we're seeing today are the result of more and more power being packed into smaller and smaller packages and just because they're higher than we're used to seeing it doesn't mean your rigs going to melt or degrade faster than in the past. Materials and design have came a long, long way since the days of the vacuum tubes used in the first warehouse sized computers. So if anything as a result of that advancement most electronics are more robust now than they've been at anytime in history as long as a company doesn't skimp to much on design, parts or the manufacturing process used in their creation...

The default config is like how TVs are sold: bright screens for the shops, but then when you get it home, you configure it sensibly. I guess that's more preferred in PR terms than getting accusations of AMD giving special configs for reviewers, and poorer configs for consumers.

Good to hear in subsequent videos that the sensible profile is now more accessible. I'd want that switch, like I do in ThrottleStop for my 7700 laptop.
