Wait for the x3d variants. Those are the real high end chips.

This happens with every Zen generation. Bad value initially due to the enticing prices of the two-year-old CPUs, but once that stock is liquidated and new gen prices dip below MSRP, the new generation offers better value.

i7800X3D gonna make AMD rich 🗿

Damn so many likes

I wouldn't knock efficiency to hard. Instead of pulling an Intel and just cranking up the juice, they're making better chips that, while the may perform about the same as the 7xxx's are doing so with less power. That's a technological win in my book.

I wonder what peak overclocking would look like...

there is a TON of performance headroom though - if you switch on PBO (automatic), allowing the cpu to use a bit more power, it spanks. they just went super conservative with how much power they're giving it.

It's just massively power limited. Bump it up to the same power limits as the 7700X and it's 30% ahead 💀

My question is if the 9600x beats the 7700x, since their prices are comparable

I don't know what he mentions. Greater Power efficiency is always good for the customer. I hope for a few non X Versions later on. We need more capable 65 w CPUs for gaming!

Hopefully they don't fail like Intels 14/13 gen CPU

Do you do any build it yourself builds I want to learn to build a pc with my dad and I really want to at least get the option or for you to just see this I think it’s a pretty good idea for those who watch you but can’t afford the prebuilt price

How about an analysis comparing the thermals of equivalent 7000 and 9000 series CPUs?

When are the x3d variants expected to release, I like the extra cache.

They are extremely efficient. They are just tuned for low power comsumption out of the box, it does not mean that it cant be set to higher power. Set them to the same limit of 142w ppt, and they have way more performance, and it gets 23000-25000 points in cinebench r23, which is not bad at all. They are just too efficient out of the box, but the architectural changes are there. You just got to give the a little more room.

More efficiency means less heating and power wastage so possibly would result in better days for mini PCs/Laptops

Also AMD needs to step up their game in laptops and this could be their W move.

Honestly I think AMD and Intel both need to have a round or two of new CPUs that focus on efficiency, even if performance doesn't rise much or even at all.

In places where power is getting more and more expensive, these chips getting the same (and in some cases better) performance than the previous generation while consuming LESS power is a win.

Power efficiency is a big deal. Sff cases can easily keep those things cool. We don't need bigger and better!! Consolidation and optimization is mandatory!!!! Nvidia keeps saying this is better while making their gpus the size of a truck.

I feel like 7000 series is still brand new idk why they are releasing the 9000 already, clearly unprepared.
