I think you misunderstood the whole thing with Donkey Kong. That's actually Cranky Kong that was fighting Mario back in the day, so the DK Junior you see where Mario "was the villian" is actually DK as a child.

You can confirm with this with the older DK games when you speak to Cranky.

In that Mario tennis scene. Mario was jealous that his brother won. Not because he was in the spotlight. Luigi doesn't get the spotlight because of Nintendo not because of Mario. Some of the old games aren't Mario. You can even see that one of them was wearing blue.

Another thing the DK series is all jumbled up. As Mario was DK rival. You can take a look at how DK Jr was a Mario Kart character in the very first Mario Kart. Both sides made the characters look bad.
