Is the Canon R5 Over Hyped or Worth Every Penny?

Final thoughts on the Canon R5 after filming with it for the last few weeks. Are the Canon oR5 and R6 over hyped? Are they good youtuber vlogging cameras? Or are there much better options with better features for cheaper?

You say it has bad DR, bad exposure, loses AF sometimes, warpy IBIS, stops recording for temperature faked issues, highest price, huge lenses (only one for vlogging) and hours lost in post because of terrible codecs...
But "still considering it" because you save half an hour color grading.

Usually i hate Sony color but this time i think Sony really nailed it in the color department of the A7Siii. It's cine-like and professional looking, not flat and over saturated like R5's color.

Look at the green in the A7Siii footage. It has the best green hue, and not too much saturation. Saturated green never looks good to my eyes. Deeper black too, R5's black looks red/brownish.

Maybe its just me, but i actually liked the sony image more...looked so warm and organic...the canon just hardly shows any yellow or orange tones...looks very hollow to my eye...and the shadow rolloff seems very harsh too...yeah, i prefer the sony image you had...

Am I the only one who prefers the image from the a7siii? I find the colors so much better than the R5 and R6. The Sony just looks more professional and cinema-cam like.

I vouch for you on the IBIS. I went out today with the Canon 24-105mm f/4 and EOS R5, both with upgraded firmware, and shot some footage handheld and I was surprised at how bumpy and jerky it was. You absolutely have to use electronic IS to even come close to having a usable video. Optimizing the media in FCPX on a 16" MacBook Pro was not too bad, but my files were short.

There is an easy fix for this exposure issue - buy a 10 stop ND filter and saw it in half. The only drawback is that you will have to always make sure the sawn half is on the horizon. I'll work!

Voitglander does wonders for color. I have a few for my a7r3 and it's pure magic. Especially the 50 1.2

My take from this: Canon better work on firmware issues (a) focus-linked exposure in video, (b) give us more auto-exposure/metering settings in video altogether, (c) let us deactivate IBIS INDEPENDENTLY of lens IS, (d), add H264 video codec!!!!

A few years ago everyone was ranting at canon for not having IBIS and now the IBIS was a bad desicion. I think the wide angle IBIS is the problem. It never works well in wide angle.

Love the master VLOG toneh Tek. I bought the R6, coz it's ez to use, tough, beautiful ergonomics AND I have all the EF lenses...! How could I switch brands... It would cost a fortune? There's NO perfect... Anything... So you still have a chance to poke fun at ALL the OEMs! Keep up the good work!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Canon update the IBIS as they get more feedback over time
