I think it's great to see long term "year later" reviews and thoughts about gear. They are much more meaningful than the initial release marketing hype when a new product comes out. I bought an R5 around late October after its launch and was lucky enough to get it by Christmas. I was switching systems from my MFT gear to full frame.

After firmware updates the camera is an absolutely fantastic hybrid camera from Canon. FINALLY! The stills performance is just awesome and the video performance with Canon Log 3 is now great as well.

The camera was poo poo'd, rightly in my opinion, from the beginning for the overheating. Canon did the right thing and released firmware to address some of the issues.

I gave the R6 the most demanding autofocus test that I know off. My children playing with swings, normal and rotating ones. Not a single of 300 shots were out of focus. I was blown away knowing how my 6D mk ii fare in the same test.

I really love my R5, best camera purchase I've ever made!

I switched from a Sony a7r4 to the R5 and glad I did. Nothing wrong with the Sony but Canon glass is superior, so glad I switched.

My favorite camera to date. It’s a just amazing in areas and balanced in others. It’s only real fault is overheating in 4k60/120. 45mp, 20fps, skin tones, canon app, wireless raw transfer(#1 plus for me), RF glass, 4kHQ, Ergonomics, it’s still the #1 value a year later.

I got my R5 about a month ago and it's just nuts. I just got the RF800 lens and i was capturing still photos of squirrels at 1/250, hand held and they are razor sharp. I'm so impressed with the stabilization with this camera and RF lenses.

I got involved with photography full time 20 years ago when i retired. After a lot of research, i decided to shoot with Olympus. I was completely sold on Olympus after spending hours at sea photographing whales. When i got back to y hotel, my camera was completely soaked with salt water. I just took the camera in the shower and ran hot water over it for about 5 minutes before drying it off with a towel. The camera still worked like new. Later, I started photographing ballet on a regular basis. I had just purchased my second Olympus camera, the one with their first electronic viewfinder. Unfortunately, when I tried to track a ballet dancer, the viewfinder was completely unusable. It was so badly blurred I could not see the dancer.

At this point I switched to Canon and bought the 5D Mark II, then the Mark III, and now I shoot with the EOS R and the EOS R6. I could not be more pleased with shooting with Canon cameras.

I have The R5 since last September. I think its the best camera, ever done. I had some issues with Tamron lens, but it was fixed by Tamron, last February.
I just love the Camera and its photography.

I'm a would-be nature photographer. I've had an R5 for a week now and photographing birds in flight is like cheating! To see the autofocus box find the eye of a small bird at a distance is amazing! I've even had it find the eyes on a dragonfly. Stunning tech.

Canon had me with their color science and never looked back.

I switched from my Sony A73 to an R5 with 50 1.2 glass based off your review video alone, and have been blown away by the performance. Thank you again for everything Jared!

I've used an R5 and an R6 for videos and highly recommend them. They can always be rented, I do.

I shoot mostly video. I bought an R5 and an RF 28-30. My god, the autofocus is flawless. In the past I would NEVER shoot lower than 4.0 without someone to pull focus. Now I’ll shoot 2.0 all by myself. Also, overheating has never been a problem.

I too bought a Canon R5 and am a very satisfied customer. My only complaint is the lack of glass to be found in stock. I had to buy an adapter off ebay to use my ef glass. The R5 is a beast! As for those who complain about 8k, what the hell are you thinking? I have 2 top of the line gaming computers that take forever to process 8k files. It's not practical to process longer videos with file sizes that will only lock up your computer. Camera files are out pacing the ability of computers to edit such media. 4k is the best resolution for the majority. Back to my main reason for buying the R5, the pics are on another level with the autofocus. I think Canon has an edge over Sony with the combination of ef or rf glass plus the autofocus. Just can't be matched. The only real complaint is the battery life. You will need to buy extra batteries for videos or invest in a battery grip. I have 6 batteries now due to taking trips on the weekend only to find out that it takes a long time to recharge one. Don't find yourself without a fully charged battery. I'm wating to see what the newer flagship models bring to the table in terms of specs and performance. Going to be an interesting year to come!

I have an R5 and an R. I must say this has been my all time favorite combination of gear ever. Canon did such a great job of their mirrorless bodies!

After using the R5 for over a year, I can safely say that this was the best investment I made into a camera system. Granted though, my first camera was a 6D Mark II and every feature is considered an upgrade. But the R5 made my chances of getting lucky on getting the perfect shot just dumbfounding! I am really impressed with the camera in the stills department and when I dabble in the video, I am immensely impressed by it's capability. Granted though, I only use the video in small samples and I barely use it in general. But having that option to shoot incredible video when primarily using it as a stills camera is incredible!

My R5 is the best camera I've ever owned. My R6 is the second best. My 5D Mark IV is now at KEH awaiting a new home. My 7D Mark II is gathering dust.
