I prefer the R6 simply because 20mp is more than enough for me and I prefer to perfect my composition without thinking "don't worry because you can always crop". And if I need more megapixels, I use the Enhance feature of Lightroom and double the pixels 👌 It works really fine !

Upgraded to the R6 from 7d mkii and I was blown away, shooting mainly wildlife and the occasional landscape the eye focus tracking and ibis was a massive step up, I was considering the R6 mkii but I couldn’t justify the extra £550 for 4 megapixels.

The R5 is a clear winner for anyone who sees the R5 as an upgrade to the R6 - it can be difficult to go from a 30mp 5d4, to a 20mp R6. Being able to crop an R5 image from landscape to portrait and still have 19 megapixels is definitely a nice pro for the R5

i traded my 5dmkiv for a r6 since i'm more of a hybrid shooter so i didn't really care so much about the loss in megapixels and honestly i don't regret the change one bit. the bump in low light performance was such a good bonus but overall it all just depends on on what your budget and what you shoot.

Thanks for the review. I heard that the canon r5 has a lot of shutter lag, is that true?

Really fair and objective comparison...best I have seen to date. I have been shooting with the R6 for about 4 months now with no regrets. Great content as usual and keep up the good work. Cheers!

loved your overview! I started with the R6, then the R5, and i also reach more and more my R5: the mode switch system between video/photo modes is way more enjoyable, even if the R6 would have been enough. it's been a bit rough for me to get used to the high resolution pics with the R5, but I think R6 photography is enough. for people serious with video I do think the R5 is really important because of the possibilities and file management in 4K and high fps with the different CF cards is a game changer. using both together is the best combo i've had ever!

This was so very helpful & answered many of the questions I had. I especially appreciate that you presented the info in a way that a non-pro could understand - thank you!

So glad I came across this comparison video! I've been on the fence between the R5 and R6, and you've helped me realize the R6 is the clear winner for my needs (photography-focused) as Black Friday/Cyber Monday approaches. I did catch wind of a recent leak around the R6 Mark II though, so that's making me wonder if I should wait for that (release date unknown). Any thoughts on that?

I have both and always reaching for the R5. I had the R6 before getting the R5 and for what I do the R5 was better but the R6 is really a great camera as well. Whatever you choose both are great.

Coming off a Canon 5D Mark IV and have no idea where to go. I liked the Mark Iv, but there's no doubt the focusing systems have become so much faster with auto focus.

As a wedding photographer I really prize the my twin R6 bodies over the r5. Generally I don't crop much, only to straighten and occasionally remove extraneous details.

What's more super high res shows more of the unflattering details of my couples' skin in their images, and eats up storage on my computer and drives.

What I do value with the R6 is better low light performance for overall cleaner images. I would like it if the R6 was made with the same LCD and hard build quality but it's not bad at all.

Still if someone gave me an r5, I'm definitely not going to be sad 😂

Thanks for your review! I'm enthusiast photographer, I shot mostly stills. So, for me it comes down to great camera for photo shots and have best value. I decide to go with R6 and for me it's a clear winner for many obvious reasons. I just purchased factory refurbished R6 with RF 24-105 4f L glass from Canon online store for $2420(R6 body for $1700) on holidays discount. Can't wait of its arrival to start shooting. I'm upgrading from DSLR to mirrorless.
