What Does Medicare Actually Cover?

We've been hearing a lot of pretty general plans to implement Medicare for all Americans. How would that work? Medicare as it exists today has some coverage gaps. How would that be addressed in Medicare for All?

The Medicare for All plan that Bernie and Rep. Jayapal have proposed are expansions on the current system, including dental, eye glass, earring aids, prescription drugs and long term care.

Medicare For All is more like Medicaid rather than Medicare, it's important to note this. Rather than stating it's just Medicare, but for all.

Very informative video. As a M4A supporter, I now understand the necessity for Medicare reform. Americans must understand that in a functioning society, we have to make choices about what kind of coverage is offered. While that idea frightens many in the US, it has been accepted as an inevitable reality all around the developed world. Keep in mind that deciding who is covered and what gets covered in the US is currently done by private insurers, who have no public accountability. I'd rather have a system that's accountable to the many, not a few executives in a boardroom.

I have a friend from the US saying that she wouldn’t survive if she weren’t to move to Japan where offering a quite beneficial health care system. She cured her uterine cancer without bankruptcy.

Medicare for All as described by Sanders does include the Dental, Pharma and Vision that has been left out and should not be left out plus the program as designed would address the exorbitant costs of medical care and pharma. That being said, this video I found valuable as it does address the 'depth of care'. I am concerned that it does not include 'car-t cell therapy' and other such innovative therapies. It seems behind the times on this and these therapies that are unfortunately costly (and probably over priced) Thanks.

Speaking about (among other things) tooths - you should do toothpast. I've been trying to look into research as to what/howmuch/pros/cons and it's actually not easy to figure out.... please help!

@4:54 - REALLY?!?! About 2/3 of my doctors' offices have signs up saying they don't accept medicare or medicaid (my psychiatrist, my dermatologist, my podiatrist, my optometrist, and my audiologist - my only other doctors are my GP, my gynecologist, and my gastroenterologist).

It's worth mentioning (and almost criminal that you skipped doing so) that Bernie's plan will cover those things you mentioned like eyeglasses and long term care.

My son just got on Medicaid and he has eyeglasses and dental coverage.

Was going to buy private health insurance but medicare said they would cover my crown. Dentist said I defiantly need them soon or something worse will happen. Sure as shit Im in a lot of pain and now they probably have to pull my tooth. This sounds like a process they do on purpose so they save money. I will sue... not even kidding... If I lose my tooth bc of this "insurance" im not gonna be happy

Want to know why Americans are so reticent to let the Feds run their healthcare? Try becoming a patient in the VA system. As a Vet, I can tell you quite a few stories that will make you very angry as both a physician and a Human being with a conscience.

I'm very disappointed in this video. In the title, description, and the video, you make it sound like you're talking about the Medicare for All plans, but you're really only discussing Medicare as it exists today. The bill that Senator Sanders put forth covers a lot more, and addresses all these issues. I can't think of anyone who is proposing that we take the current Medicare system and give THAT to everyone. That would be silly. You're not usually one to make such silly mistakes or give people false impressions, but you do both here.

It takes 40+ years of work related taxes (at 7%) to pay for medicare after age 65. Now we will expand medicare to everyone and expand what it covers and it can be had instantly with a small increase in taxes. I think not. This program will add a trillion dollars, a year, to the national debt by itself.
