Do I have to meet the Part D deductible before Medicare covers any of my medications? What if I just take generic cholesterol medication?

I chose a different carrier for my part D coverage back in October 2022 to begin in 2023 because it was a cheaper one than in 2021. The only medication I was on was for high BP. April of this year I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and was prescribed pregabalin a generic form of Lyrica. W....rt sent me a text letting me know that my order was ready for pickup. The text also gave me the total of my medication. My eyes rolled right out of my head as it said $122.00 after insurance. I went to Goodrx and got a coupon and ended up paying $17.00 and, it will be $17.00 each month this year. I am very thankful!

I’ve been a pharmacy technician since 1995 and have worked retail pharmacy for a good portion of that. When Medicare Part D came out in either 2007 or 2008, I was appalled to learn that Congress and the GWB administration forbade Medicare to bargain with the pharmaceutical industry! I heard that it was Bush’s gift to the pharmaceutical industry and I totally believe it as most of Congress is bought and paid for by the Big Pharma lobbyists. I have 3 years until I have to go on Medicare and I am not looking forward to it.

so in the coverage gap, is the 25% completely out of pocket like the deductible stage? Or is it still a kind of copay since the plan is paying for a portion of the cost at least?
