I love my toshiba I bought from home depot last year. Could not have made it through the summer last year. I typically dont run central AC because I have this.
This one i have also has heat. I LOVE IT!!! it cools @ 1000 sq ft. 2 room area in about 20 minutes once I get home even when its 100* outside. ( i leave it off when im gone ) and after 20 min. im either turning the temp up or turning it off as it gets WAY TOO COLD.

I wish I can use a window unit, but we have an HOA and have large windows that slide left and right. I got a 9000 BTU portable AC in my small bedroom and I wrapped the exhaust hose in duct insulation. It made a big difference in efficiency. It still allows me to keep the 4 ton central unit set to 80 to lower the electric bill, and the room I'm always in stays ice cold.

It’s sort of upsetting that cheaper homes and apartments have horizontal sliding windows which end up costing the tenants more money.

I got a second hand Coolway 10000btu portable a.c (aged like 10 years and yeah it's not in production anymore). It's probably the most basic portable a.c you could find around. I have to say I love that little thing. It can get to 97F around here in February and over 100 in April, being a country in tropical west Africa and all. What it doesn't do is to chill my room ice cold. But it sure does make it way cooler than out there. It feels like a constant breeze of cold air.

I could be fully clothed and still be ok indoors whereas with a fan, I'd have to be shirtless to keep cool. It does make a bit of noise compared to a ductless unit which is relatively silent, but I don't mind and don't even notice it. Most times when I hear it in my sleep it sounds like rain and I sleep through it just fine.

Newer brands may be more efficient than my old discontinued unit. I'd highly recommend them.

I use a probable air conditioner and love it. It's definitely bigger and heavier, but much easier to install in any kind of window

I love my 14, 000 BTU portable AC, I can’t see why all the hate. I use it for 3 months of the year & only use it in my bedroom, where I lay around all day when it’s real hot! Also great for cooling down the room quickly, my bedroom is around 36 sq metres, & cools down my room in 10/15 minutes.

I've used my portable a/c for 2 summers now and no complaints but I have a small house...it's in the living room... I have a window a/c in the bedroom which also helps with cooling into the hallway. Fans are also useful. We've had days in the 90's with high humidity and still stays cool and comfortable. No complaints with the electric bill either.

Thank you for sharing this helpful video on cons with the "so-called" portable Air Conditioners! 🤝 I was about to purchase an LG portable A/C from Home Depot, and I'm glad I didn't. My neighbor complained yesterday about his brand new $500 portable A/C unit that was ice cold two weeks ago and now is not blowing as much cold air during this heat wave week.

The problem with window units is they are very heavy and inconvenient to move into the window and out again at the end of a season, particularly for older people. The weight is a real drawback for them.

Cheap portable aircon can be 10 times cheaper than installing a split unit. Still, split is better but if its just 'too' hot for a week a year, portable is a good solution in my opinion. A regular installment here including a split unit varies between 2000-3000k; while a portable airco varies between 200-500....

You missed an important tip if it's the only option: get a unit with two hoses not one hose.

My apartment building doesn't allow window Ac units to be installed if you live above ground floor as it poses many safety risks to people below. You need to mention that you need to buy the correct size unit to cool the intended area. I'm running a 400sqFt capable portable AC and it cools my whole living area kitchen and first some of my first room in a 850sqFt apartment. If you want the comfort you'll spend the money because summers getting more intense you're gonna need it.

Media makes a Dou hose(A double hose in one) inverter portable a/c its SACC and BTU rating are very close to the same. Apartments and Condos don't allow window a/c units in most cities.

Dual hose are 40% more efficient. It’d be nice if this was confirmed.

Two duct portable ACs are better and more efficient than single duct portables but area rarely sold in stores even though they don’t cost a lot more than single duct machines and single ducts portables create negative air pressure.

I bought an air temp window ac in 1987 made by Chrysler. It's been passed down to several family members and is still working.

If I didn't live with someone who complained about "how ugly the window AC looked outside", I would have already bought one instead of this obnoxious, inefficient portable AC. I use it instead because it's better than nothing, but it raises the electric bill higher than a window AC would. I hate it.

Window a/c makes too much noise and wall shakes and vibrates! I bought a portable one, less noise, cools more, i didnt strugle installing it! I feel way more confortable with the portable one!

Too bad the ductless got just a passing mention with little information. Are they good or bad?

I bought a portable AC some 4 years ago and after trying it in several rooms I gave up and boxed it for the past two years.... Until I found an excellent use for it late last year. So, it was too noisy especially to keep running at night in the bedroom, extremely heavy to carry around and the extractor tubing was a nightmare! I was considering selling it to get rid of it until I faced a problem which this little unit ended up resolving perfectly well! My shower was so hot in summer that I could hardly dry up, the walls were susceptible to moulding and in winter the steam covered everything... Especially the mirror, windows etc. I got AC technicians to install a small AC but they guaranteed the unit would be damaged within a few months as the steam would corrode the circuit.... So one day I decided to try the portable AC without tubing.... Just placed it in the door until I showered and the result was awesome.... I didn't need it to cool the shower... Just me until I got dry. Within a minute the shower cooled and dried up and there was no risk for the unit as it wasn't circulating internal air like fixed ACs do. Even though it might consume more electricity for the shower is not a problem. The shower is very small and in any case I just leave it running for half an hour a day. Result- I'm enjoying both Summer and Winter showers, no more mould, no more steamed mirrors or It's was just the perfect solution.... Been using it every day for over a year now and I'm extremely happy I bought it!
