I must be a rare person that treats a rental like my own car. Never understood why some people want to destroy someone else's property.

My mom bought a 1999 Toyota Corolla in 2002 with 30K miles on it that was an ex rental car. It now has 225K miles on it, has never broken down, and is still driven daily to work.

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. One of the things the rental branches are graded on is car maintenance. Those cars are well maintained and have to remain safe and reliable because a 13 billion dollar a year company's reputation depends on reliability.

Because we trash them, guilty as charged. Period.

I bought a 1 year old Ford Taurus ex-rental with 20K miles in 2004. Half the cost of new. 14 years and 240K miles it is still running. Still burns no oil, still shifts good. A bit rusted but still usable as an extra vehicle.

Sorry but these are ALL opinions of the video poster. This video contains no facts. Rentals-fleet vehicles are not bad purchases, I know because I've owned them, and all have been problem free. Maintenance can be verified, and most people renting cars today are held to such strict no damage contracts that no one considers abusing them. I would definitely buy another rental-fleet vehicle. They can be car fax verified and most have maintenance records.

I work for Enterprise, and we bring the cars regularly for maintenance. We mark the mileage of the car every time it is returned from rental and it is entered in a computer, which notifies us and will not let us rent a car if the maintenance has not been done.

That said, I wouldn't wanna buy a used rental car after seeing the messes people make in them. I cleaned actual poop out of an Altima the other day. But then again people make those messes in their own personal cars that they sell too, especially used leases.

Basically, just have any car you ever buy inspected through and through.

I beg to differ. I bought a Hertz Corolla 3 years ago for my little sister who was going to college. So far all she's had done for it was oil changes. I'm not sure about other brands. But Toyota's are solid cars.

I respectfully disagree. Rental cars (owned by large companies) are generally kept to strict maintenance schedules and come with detailed records.

Also, who has time to beat on a Corrola, or similar? Wouldn’t even be fun. If you’re renting car it means you have somewhere to be, something to do.

I think a more accurate statement would be: don’t buy a rental Mustang!!! That i understand.

Always enjoy the content, Scotty! Appreciate your hard work.

I work for a rental car company. Enterprise to be exact. Im a Maint Tech there, I used to inspect cars that went to Enterprise Dealers. Sold as Certified used cars. We performed a 109 point inspection on them. Bumpers get painted if scratched, wheels get repaired from any curb damaged, it gets detailed, and then us the mechanics would inspect them. Almost all that I inspected were in really good shape. Some of them would get kicked/rejected if repairs were too costly or if there was any hidden damage like frame or body damage. As far as them not getting maintained well is a lie. At Enterprise we maintain them pretty well.

I bought a rental car (15 Buick Lacrosse) through a dealership. It had 26K on it, and now over two years later I have 73K of mileage, and it's still driving like a champ.

Going on a year & a half ownership of a 2016 Ford Fusion, purchased from Hertz. So far, I've changed the oil and put air in the tires. That's it. $6000 off of Blue Book. Still can't figure out how to take the speed limiter off, 80 mph, that Hertz put on it. Electric brake means nobody did any drifting with it. Mechanic looked at it and was amazed. Check out the Hertz Rent 2 Buy Program. Rent it for 3 days. Have your mechanic check it out. Take it back if you don't like it. If you get a report of what's wrong with it, from your mechanic, they'll waive the rental charges. Totally worth looking at. I did and I totally recommend it.

I rented a Nissan Versa sedan. It was a white knuckle experience at 75mph on the highway. You had to have both hands on the wheel in case a light breeze caught you from the side.

I bought a rental car that came from a company that rented out luxury sports cars and It has been amazing. The dealership even certified it and extended the warranty beyond the factory. It depends where you get the rental car from.

But what if the rental car is a Toyota? Oh No!!! Lol

I don't know how it is in US, but in Europe, rental cars are usually sold before first regular service (around 20-30k km). Such cars are usually brand new on the inside and could have some scratches or dents on the outside. That's my first hand experience from using rentals quite a lot, for business purposes. Having that in mind, I've bought a rental car just recently. It's 1.5 years old, with 27k km and it looks brand new both on the inside and outside and still has 3.5 years warranty. And I got it for half price of new. I'd say buy a rental, if the price is right.
