10 Reasons Not To Buy A Martin D-18

The dealer offered to sell me a new Martin D-18 at a nice discount. I'm listing the reasons for and against getting it. Here are my personal top 10 reasons NOT to buy this guitar.

Bought a new D-18 for $325 in October 1969 the day I was discharged from military service. It aged like a Stradivarius. Plays and sounds better than many vintage 28s, 35s, and 45s I played in several different body styles. The tone is warm and the volume and bass response are very close to the D-28. Gave it to my son last year and got a 000-28, which is more suited to string bending for blues. There is no rational reason not to buy a D-18. I taught my grandson that you can never own too many guitars.

I stopped at D28 because my wife owns a Smith&Weston big 45. I bought it for her. D28 is all I ever want.

I have a bunch of nice guitars both acoustic and electric including a $7000 custom built McKnight acoustic and went to play a brand new 2018 D18e Retro and ummm yeah I got it. I was absolutely blown away. Thanks for the hilarious video

I couldn’t justify buying my D-28 a few years ago but did it anyway. It really made it a lot easier to pull the trigger on a D-18 a couple of weeks ago.

You could eliminate reason #5 by purchasing a larger home. With the larger home, you could have an entire floor devoted to your guitar collection.

Well, I own an '89 Gibson J-200, which is great to back vocals. But those D-18's can be really sweet!
