The show didn’t imply Phillip and Penny had an affair at all. It was very clear the nature of their friendship, I don’t understand why people are claiming otherwise.

It is said in the show that Prince Phillip and Penny have a strictly platonic relationship, so it's not wrong.

I was disappointed how little they showed of Dr Khan, when in reality he was with Diana over two years, she traveled to Pakistan to meet his family and hoped to marry him, and was with him right up until months before she died, and was with Dodi sort of as a rebound fling. He was one of the most important people in her life.

I liked how there was both fact and fiction in the scene where Princess Margaret reunites with Peter. It's bittersweet, in that it was short-lived, and Peter was slowly dying, but they both clearly still care about each other.

I don’t think The Crown made it look like “an affair” - Penny was grieving & seemed lonely & we’ve seen many times, Philip struggles too. I only saw a close friendship.

I'm really impressed by how well they managed to recreate the infamous "Revenge Dress" for Elizabeth. The costume department definitely deserves a huge pay raise! 👗😍

Actually, the part about Charles and Diana sharing a meal after the divorce isn't that far from the truth. Apparently, Charles dropped by to see Diana from time to time and still sent her flowers on her birthday. Sometimes, people get along better when they're NOT married.

The Crown actually tried to get us to believe the public actually prefered Prince Charles over Queen Elizabeth and would be in favor of her abdicating to her son. That was cute.

The three actresses playing the Queen do a phenomenal job 🤩 I’m very impressed by their performances. The more I research about the Queen at those different stages of her life, the more I admire the professionalism of the actresses. They all look and talk like the Queen and even have her mannerisms. Great team effort from the production 🙌 In general, the series has a great cast ❤

I watched the entire season and nowhere did I see any indication of an affair between Philip and Penny. Seemed more like a father-daughter dynamic in the show 🤔

Charles and Diana may not have share this exact scene together, but they did cry together on a couch the day their divorce was finalized and Charles even went to Kensington Gardens to have tea with her, they also laughed and reflected on their marriage. While Diana said she always loved Charles, she had to accept the fact that he loved Camilla. It is nice that they stayed in good terms at the end. The breakfast is clearly dramatized but it represents the fact that they did make peace towards the end.

Also, I love her small mention of Darren McGrady, her chef. He has his own YT channel!

I dont think the show said it was an affair. The show got the Phillip story correct. He said "intellectual companionship" and made clear it was platonic.

I don't think The Crown did any damage to King Charles, nor Camilla. On the contrary, it gave a very balanced narrative and humanized the royals and the situations. And contrary to the hype I heard before it released, it didn't imply that Prince Philip had an affair with Penny, but that they did have a friendship based upon common interests and temperaments.

Never looked at Phillips friendship as an "Affair". Kind of messed up to call it one. We as humans have all kinds of friendships. There was nothing romantic about theirs!

Lots people in the comment section are rightly pointing out that the show doesn't imply that Philip and Penny had an affair.

I would also add that the show doesn't necessarily imply that Charles wanted the Queen to abdicate; the character Charles never explicitly said that in the show. Yes, the show implies that he wanted a bigger role, but that could be achieved without full abdication.

The Charles character does not quite say his mother should abdicate, but suggests he be given a bigger role.

Companionship and an affair are two very different things.

I have watched the episode and I love prince phillip and penny's relationship. Prince phillip helped a young woman going through her grieve by introducing her to new hobby. I think that's a nice and delightful idea bcs some women really do need a hobby to cope with grieving
