Does the ball have to go overhead? It seems as though a lot of potential energy would be lost if the arms, legs and back fully extend.

Slam is not with good intetion. Ball is too heavy. She's almost letting the ball drop. In good form the slam should be emphasized. It's a posterior chain exercise.

In the CF games they did them touch and go(without releasing the ball), Is that acceptable or is that incorrect form?

well, that's shit. you can tell she's using her arms to throw it, not hips. it's supposed to be like a reverse swing, using hips to move the ball.
