InPresence 0186: Super Ego vs. Super Consciousness

Jeffrey Mishlove describes the Freudian understanding of sub-conscious dynamics – id, ego, and super ego – and contrasts that with his understanding of Super Consciousness. He suggests that the Super Conscious Mind, to which we all have access, connects us with the knowledge and wisdom that is the inheritance of all humanity. However, using the metaphor of a lotus flower, one has to explore the muck at the roots in order to experience the beauty and joy to be found at the blossom.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980).

When I was watching a channeler friend of my Dad’s, one of 6 who frequented my childhood home, a question was posed to her, ‘was I such and such a person in my past existence?’, the channeler automatic wrote her answer in very poetic Turkish, a language style not normally hers, nor anybody else’s, that the questioner was everyone in her ‘becoming’; she was a pirate, a bandit, a saint, everything... Another fascinating and thought-provoking talk, Dr. Mishlove. Thank you. I've been catching up on my world history, particularly the falls of various civilizations all over the world throughout the many thousands of years of human history. Man and nature are both extremely unkind to our species, some of the things that one culture has done to another to eradicate it is horrific (mass murder, enslavement, burning, displacement, etc.). I think that the super ego plays a major role in this base desire to destroy, abuse, and conquer and is something that warrants future study. I think it represents self-identification run amok.

I love the theme here, the ascension from the darkness to the light. Indeed, we cannot make the journey until we embrace the whole being, all of it's parts, in a unified field of unconditional love. That, to, is a process just like everything else that moves us toward a fuller expression of consciousness in form.

Is cosmic consciousness more the hyper-awareness of one's perfected form, fit and function in the world as one becomes a more self-aware, self-actualized and self-realized being? It seems the journey tends to move us in that direction when we arrive at the door just beyond the full acceptance and embracing of the SuperEgo and transcendence from it.

The Super-ego tries to supersede the greater aspects of self, the cosmic consciousness available to the incarnate which shows up as a Buddha or Christ-conscious being. Humans, for the most part it seems, feel that ascribing to a 'perfected form, fit and function' in the aspects of self-actualization (outer) and self-realization (inner) is completely beyond the possibilities for human accomplishment or expression.
