Major Differences Between a Military Legal Career and a Civilian Legal Career | JAG Corps
Maybe you're an attorney looking for a career shift, or you're in law school or still in college, and you're thinking about becoming a JAG - a Judge Advocate General - what we call a military attorney. Maybe you don't know any JAGs to call up and ask all of those questions that you don't even realize you should be asking. I get it. I've been there. Before I joined the Air Force, I recognized well enough that becoming a JAG was going to be more than just a career choice; it was going to be a complete lifestyle change. So even though I spoke with a ton of current and former active duty military members from probably every branch, their general openness to answer any questions I had was helpful in telling me about military life generally, but it wasn't super helpful in telling me about the JAG Corps in particular because every career field is different. When it came to information about what it's like being a JAG, I had no idea back then what questions I should have actually been asking. So in this video, I'm going to tell you some of the major things you should know about becoming an active duty JAG in the United States armed forces, so that when it's time for you to make that decision, you can hopefully be a little bit more prepared.
