Vice President Sara Duterte and Sen. Risa Hontiveros had a heated exchange during the Senate finance committee's hearing on the proposed 2025 budget of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Tuesday (August 20).

Asked by Hontiveros about details of the OVP's budget, including assistance programs that are "parallel" or similar to those of the labor and social welfare agencies, Duterte said that the reason for the proposed separate allocation is due to alleged politicized decision-making from the line agencies.

According to Duterte, her office has experienced instances where its referral of assistance to DSWD was rejected, allegedly because of political allegiances.

Hontiveros said she would make a motion to re-allocate the budget for the OVP's assistance programs to the relevant agencies, including DOLE.

The senator went on to ask about "Isang Kaibigan," a children's book authored by Duterte, and its proposed budget of P10 million to be distributed to learners.

The vice president, however, opted to not address the question about the book, and instead likened Hontiveros' planned motion to re-allocate the OVP's assistance programs to her earlier mention of politicizing.

Duterte brought up Hontiveros' previous statements about her stance on China, as well as the senator's alleged past attempt to court Davao voters through the vice president's father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Hontiveros said she was at a loss as to why Duterte would bring up politicizing when she simply asked about details of the book distribution. The senator questioned Duterte's "attitude" given the hearing's formal setting — a statement echoed by the vice president pertaining to Hontiveros.

This is difficult to watch. VP Sara throwing tantrums over a simple question of Sen. Risa Hontiveros. And instead of answering the question, she narrated an old grudges and accusing Hontiveros politicizing her project funds. I just want to remind everyone how her father and the former President Duterte disrespect and treated former VP Lenie Robredo so badly. She was not given proper budget, the reason Leni did a lot fundraising to sustain all her charity works. And now Sara acted like an onion skin, and feeling so entitled. Are the people of the Philippines don't see this awful behavior?

how come the VP is promoting and insisting on distributing her book (authored/written by her) at the expense of taxpayers money (government funds) to be distributed throughout the country. Isn't that illegal? If she wants to sell her books, she should look for private marketing platforms or sales agents and not insist that the government buy it and distributed it to various schools nationwide. That is irregular. She is the one politicizing her position for her personal gain. Shame on the senators who said they will fully support the OVP Budget. She herself admitted by her own words that the goal is to let the parents read her name as the author of the book which is written on the front cover, which will eventually lead to the parents voting for her. the NAME of the GAME = PATRONAGE POLITICS at the expense of the peoples taxes. REDUNDANCY / DUPLUICATION OF FUNCTIONS OF OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES + VERY DIFFICULT TO AUDIT AND TRACT IF PART OF THE MONEY WILL BE STOLEN. DIRTY POLITICS BY TRAPOS.
