We replace the notoriously bad starter on a 9th Gen Accord (2015) 4-cylinder (2.4L K24W Engine) with a new OEM starter. The starter is in a hard location if you don't have a lift or high jack. This was for a manual transmission, I think the automatic trans uses a different starter.

Your video is by far the best one on YouTube for this repair. Good lighting and visibility. And a steady held camera. I’ve watched a bunch of other ones where the guy is constantly waiving around the camera, or worse, talking about what he’s doing with the view completely dark. Kudos

Thanks for the video. My 2017 starter is starting to make the grinding sound. Just picked up a rebuild for it

Very good video Binh; you hit all the key steps. Saved me $$$. But not an easy job without a lift. But can be done w/o any special tools, but definitely will push a shade tree mechanic to his limit. But job was a success, thanks so much for the video.

I did a Honda CR-V 2017 2.4L. I could only fit one hand (my left 80% of the time). Took me 3.5 hours from start to finish and clean up. After I got done my wife told me the dealership quoted $2500 for the job. The starter cost me $302. I haven't gotten my core cost of $55 back yet. Haven't mailed it back. Advanced wanted over $700 for a refurbished starter. Autozone wanted over $470. Got it from NAPA with a 20% off promo code. Doing it outside in the dark and after work probably slowed me down.

Did Honda do anything to the starters so that they don't fail after 5 to 7 years, or did they just kick the can down the road? In other words, can I expect the new starter to last longer than the older starter?

Bihn,

Is the 2015 Starter that you Put in,

The same on a 2013 Honda Accord EX
4 cylinder (CVT) ?

I’m pretty sure it’s my starter acting up. I put a New Battery In the Car, Key Fob battery is only around 5mnths old.

Once In a While it will start on first Press of the push start, but most of the time
It takes me sitting there a minute press the push start and it eventually cranks.

I can hear a Clicking noise, then eventually it will startup.

I’ve seen a video where someone with a 2016 Accord pulled out the push start and sprayed a cleaner where it connects and it helped.

Can you post the info of the starter needed and where I can Buy one? Like your brother did.

Having the starter replaced at the dealer the price seems pretty high!

Any info you could give me about where to get a OEM Starter replacement for my 2013, I would appreciate it.

I’ve also read that the battery’s that come in the Car are very small and really not enough CCA.

When I bought My 2013 A replacement bigger battery was already in it.

So, once it started going bad, I just put same group size in it that previous owner upgraded it too.

Thanks

Binh, thank you for the instructional. A friend had his ‘15 TLX towed to my house and there are zero quality videos across YT pertaining to the TLX starter. The removal was a little more difficult laying in the dirt where the wrecker dropped the car in my yard. It was more difficult when I found that my air ratchet had rusted out. Two hours later I installed the refurbished starter my buddy ordered and it STILL WON’T START. Getting a higher pitched clicking and will not turn over. Any ideas what would cause this?

How can you tell if the starter is going bad? I have 2013 accord v6 coupe with 110k and my dash key light comes on intermittently. I’ve noticed lately it doesn’t start off the 1st try, sometimes it takes 2-5 times to push button start. Once I get the car started everything is fine. Do you think it’s the starter or maybe the push button connection? Please help!
