This process should be similar on the following vehicles:

2004 Toyota Corolla
2005 Toyota Corolla
2006 Toyota Corolla
2007 Toyota Corolla
2008 Toyota Corolla

Tools you will need:

This video is 100% accurate. However, it's a little deceiving because the camera fits into the space in front of the motor. My head does not. Just be aware that this video shows you where everything is, but it's a little harder to see. Awesome video! Thank You!

Great video, I used the advice you gave, but instead of jacking it up, I just pulled my fan out. Gives you a lot more space to work if your using hand tools, and also makes it easier to remove the starter and fit the new one in.

Actually it’s easy if u just remove the fan assembly and it’s a lot faster no need jack the car up or nothing comes from top with fan out the way

Idk …..I didn’t take out the fan nor did I jack up the car…..couldn’t use a reg 3/4 inch wrench since it hit the plastic fan but COULD use a short/small handle 1/4 inch wrench and a short 12mm socket to remove elec connection bolt . The other two bolts I removed with a regular 3/4 wrench . Then I removed 2 clips from the plastic splash guard and wiggled it out the bottom. Did the same thing in reverse to reinstall.

I removed the fan shroud and then had easy access to remove the starter.

330k km and the original Denso starter begun to intermittently spin but not kick out the Bendix.

A disassembly, clean, and spot of grease on the gears and oil on the bushings and it sounds and works like a new one!

Worked great! With a second person helping, we managed to get the new starter in from below without raising the car. Love how high off the ground these Corollas sit!

Yes the first 14 mm bolt accessed from the right side takes an extension

I replaced mine on an 03 Corolla with a Toyota starter around 2014 & it just got messed up today in 2024. Is that normal for it to go this soon? Also, should I get an original Toyota starter or can I buy another brand? One last thing, is it possible for a mechanic to damage the starter while working on something else?

Great clip thanks! I had a better time loosening one of the bolt from the bottom.

This is alright but it's easier to pull the fan that it is to jack the car up and wrestle the starter in place. Also, beware. I just replaced a good starter because even though it would roll the windows up and down and turn on the headlights, it wouldn't click the starter solenoid.

thanks this worked great for me! however i did take out the fan which was extremely simple, so I didn't have to take it out through the bottom.

I feel like I over tighten the electrical part. I’m sure I would of known if I broke it right?

Serious Question, do you keep the electric radiator fans in place to protect the radiator?
