Most older domestic cars are very easy to replace a starter. Newer foreign cars are a real pain sometimes. Research it before you buy a starter, and know what tools you need. Years ago, trying to replace a starter on an old Chevy Caprice. The new starter was bigger, nobody could get it up though and bolted on. I tried, and after a few attempts, I got it on. Sometimes it takes a little finagling, but it can be done!

Signal from ignition (small wire), positive from battery (big wire), ground is metal of the starter that makes contact with the engine.

I helped a guy start his Tahoe the other day.Starter worked fine but he'd hit the key and the starter would spin free and made a hell of a noise.I knew exactly what the problem was and grabbed a flat head screwdriver.He had lost a few teeth on the flywheel and the starter was at exactly that spot where the teeth were gone and it was turning free.I crawled underneath and popped out the access plug in the bottom of the bell housing then pushed on the flywheel teeth till it rotated the flywheel a few inches so it would start.

I had a '55 Chevy with a 350 and 4 speed, back in the '70's. The starter would crack the nose piece over time. I got so good changing starters, I could do it in the dark. The Auto supply store finally gave me a high torque starter which cured my problem.

i need scotty to live next door to me.. lol.. the luck I have had with my past 4 vehicles in a yr is bs... jus did calipers rotors and brake discs 5 days ago n now here I am relaxing the samn starter... never ends ..
