WHY you should STOP this with the Sony A7IV

I stopped using the shutter protection with the A7IV to avoid dust constantly getting stuck on the sensor. I thought the shutter protector was meant to protect it from dust but honestly you will always get dust on your sensor. I changed the setting back to the original with this and now I just blow out the sensor. This is exactly what I have been doing with every single camera I have owned for years and never has any issues.
It just seems to always collect dust no matter what and you just have to accept it, blow it out and move on. Thanks to Nitecore for sending over their blowerbaby as this has helped heaps with cleaning my gear. Using the pen brush has helped a lot in many circumstances and is absolutely worth it.

My hat is off to you. I actually bought one of these so thanks. But you have a talent of making a commercial not feel like a commercial. This isn’t meant as a backhanded compliment. I am genuinely serious. Sponsors are going to freaking love you. And that’s good because that means you’ll keep making videos. Thank you.

I only used my camera a few times since I've been busy and yes I had a big piece of dust on the sensor which completely baffled me since I was using the shutter closing feature. Thank you for this advice.

I too had the dust on sensor issue with the shutter power-off setting. I stopped using that setting for the same reason you did. Great advice.

I only turn it on when I plan to change lenses because usually I am shooting in nasty outdoor environments and it is very easy to get dust inside. Other than that, I leave it off because the camera powers on and is ready to go faster with it off. I did have dust on my sensor once in the last 3 weeks since I got the camera but that dust spec came on it directly from the factory...

I just say check your sensor before anything important and clean it. It takes 5 seconds to use the little sensor swabs from Amazon and it guarantees no problems in post. I’ve used the sensor shutter a few times and I’m more paranoid from it getting “stuck “ or binded than anything else.

well at home I use a big factory vacuum cleaner with a power of 5000w It seems powerful but in the end it has to be clean without all the dust very efficient and professional

I believe I've read that the IBIS or something related to the sensor creates a slight electrostatic charge and so it attracts dust a bit more but I'm not sure. I made the mistake of swapping lenses on a windy day by the beach and I had a bunch of dust on mine

Also note don’t know if you mentioned it but that anti dust function does count towards your shutter count life expectancy every time you turn on and off your camera with that setting you use about 2 shutter count alone doing that I had to test that when I notice my shutter count was a bit high for how long I had the camera and amount of photos I took

As a hybrid shooter that after shooting Canon for 20 years and finally switched to the A7IV. The only issue I have with the A7IV is it seems to attract dust. Very odd but I just clean it before each shoot. Love that little device. Ordering one right now! 🍻

Good lord. Thank you! Owned this camera for a month now and I was losing my mind over how many spots I was removing in post sometimes.

I 100% agree man. I think any dust reduction from leaving the shutter down is outweighed by the risk of damaging the shutter. Great video I’ll have to check out this nitecore.

It's not about stopping all dust from getting to the shutter. Its about when you got to switch lenses something blowing on to the shutter that would normally end up in the camera and may be difficult to remove or scratch the sensor. It gives you the chance to stop that from making it to camera internals while changing the lens.

Its about you observing something blowing onto the shutter as you put the lens on. Its not perfect but will reduce odds if your paying attention during the swap.

Omg! Thank you soo much for making this video. I thought I was the only one going crazy over always having dust on my censor from using that damn shutter door. Need less to say..I stopped using it as well. But good to know I wasn’t the only one lol!

Hello brother. I need help. So basically I was changing lenses and a little bit of spit got on my shutter that was covering the sensor. It evaporated but left a dark little smudge i can still see on the shutter. Images still come out fine. Is there a way to safely, properfly clean the shutter? Thank you .

Ok, no disrespect here, just a comment. First, I'e not had the problem you've seen but we may be in different environments. 2nd, I put the shutter in my menu, so I can turn in on when I switch lenses so it doesn't activate the shutter when I turn it on & off. Lastly, when you turn this into a sales pitch well I'll leave that there. I will check out the product & would have done that without the shutter thing preceding it. Like your videos & they've help me a lot!

many have complained about the dust issue from the closed shutter. I haven't suffered from it, but I also almost never change the lens as I only have 2, the Sony 24-105 f4 G OSS and the Sony 90mm f2.8 Macro G OSS 😜

Is the blower link your affiliate link? I have run into the same sensor cleaning issue with Sony and I like this product and want to make sure you get credit for the purchase.

A brief followup. Do you lightly blown any dust off the shutter before you replace the lens?
