Designated driver mode was actually the first thing I thought of to why you'd want an autonomous cars so that, when you've had a few [dozen] too many intoxication beverages, you can push a button to get the car to drive you home while you collapse in the back, trying not to ruin the upholstery. It could posibly even call, text, or email someone to help you upon arrival. The same tech would also work as driver for the very young and/or old and those with physical handicaps or medical conditions.

this idea is great, but I feel its gonna take years for some trial and error to make it safe, 100% safe but better. Computer avoiding rear ends, side swipes, blind spot collision protection on your car and the car beside you on the interstate sounds better than now.

2:17 - I recognize that dealership plate. It's Scott Honda of west Chester (my home town and where my car came from)

#6: Will enable electric cars because "By providing a solution to the range/battery problem, self-delivered cars enable the small electric car, which is vastly more efficient than existing cars or even trains. Don't know who killed the electric car but [driverless cars] can save it." (source Brad Templeton)

Actually a drunk person in a self driving car is still not a good idea. Self driving cars are the main reason why we never rely on public transport, and that reason is because PT can and will never take us to specific destinations so the "take public transport" arguement is invalid espeacially for those who are in desperate need of getting around and or even getting to work.

I am 100% ready for self-driving cars. Immagine! You could get some computer work done while your car drives you home!!! Awesome future!

Self driving cars wont fully benefit the other drivers on the road unless EVERYBODY has a car that can drive itself. Ain't nobody got money for that

Generally, computers are fine if you have the the right specs for your usage and applications -- high-end CPU, enough RAM, all that jazz.

A vast majority of lag issues and problems computer users face is user-error. If you managed your applications, i.e., the number of applications you have installed and running, along with how many run autonomously at boot sequence, you would find that the vast majority of the time, your computer will perform more quickly and consistently.

... and get an SSD.

it better not take this long... they say by 2020 we'll have a few on the road, of course it needs to be approved at the state and federal level

Self-driving cars are going to happen.
But don't see it becoming mainstream before 2040.

Self-driving technology will be a huge boon the the auto industry. In the future, all cars will be rented or leased -- especially if you want the auto manufacturer picking up the liability. This will offer huge marketing and fee opportunities to the industry. The problem will not be for the auto industry, it is for the rest of us in how to keep the auto industry's growing control and fees in check.

America needs to revolutionize transportation quicker. I can't wait my whole life waiting for this. Once they perfect it, than we can drink and be chauffeured around. I'd definitely take longer road trips vs flight and just nap in car overnight.. Leave friday after work saturday morning wake up 600 miles away :P ... of course it'll follow that they'll eventually increase traffic speeds once the adoption is near 100% ... Again this is all going to take too long of my life to wait for!! Hurry!!!
