This is a video I DID NOT want to make. I've caught my Toyota dealership overcharging me for factory parts several times... but nothing compares to the quote my mom got to fix her new RAV4! I explain how to check if your dealer is price gouging you on OEM parts and accessories. I'll also show you how to replace a RAV4 rear bumper cover and install the integrated OEM trailer hitch kit!

I think the 8 hours quoted was just right. There’s two of you working on it which means 8 man hours.

Hey, your videos are great, and bad business practices do need to be brought to light.

On the hitch quote, did their labor include wiring up the trailer light connector, such as a 4 pin? Doubt a 7 pin connector would be necessary. Not that 8hrs is correct for that but it could've been a difference vs the 1 hr quoted to put just the actual hitch on.

To all I know, maybe you can't get a trailer light harness installed.

My toyota dealership is so stupid anymore. My brand new 4runner now has a horrible windshield snap/crackle/pop sound and they are so clueless and do not want to hear how other owners/dealerships solved the issue.

Toyota is a joke at the moment. Went to upgrade my sienna. Told the sales man my budget is 50k or lower. Salesman went and ordered me a new sienna through Toyota for about 45k. After tax and everything, I figure it be close to 50k. He told me it would take at least 6-12 months for the order. Then he proceeded to try to make me buy trims levels that were 52k and higher because they were the only ones available for the next couple of months. I said no, yet he kept trying to sell me higher models. I left the dealer and wrote them a 1 star review.

They want to make money off the parts and the labor and that to me is a scam. If you’re already paying for labor why should they screw you over with inflated parts prices…. And everyone has a reason to justify this but us consumers are the ones getting the shaft

Went for the 30k service. I have Toyota care. They charged me $46 for an engine air filter.

Love this video Jason. I'm in Canada, but I found several online OEM parts retailers to buy my OEM parts from that save me a bunch. I purchased enough gaskets, filters, etc to do 1 complete oil change, front/rear diff service, and air filters and saved about 30% over my local dealers, even including shipping to my door. One of the retailers I buy from is a dealer in Ontario with an online store, I'm in Alberta.

Wait wait just wait, you’re telling me you have a 10mm socket? How I’m the world did you find one of those? You must have the hook up at the factory. They get lost in transit to the store all the time, or is it lost from the store to the house? lol 😂😅

The hitch I installed took right around 2-3 hours, and I was taking my time as well. There is no way that should have been quoted for 8 hours. Ridiculous. Yup, just DIY.

Awesome video. Hope that this dealer changes, but sadly this happens at many dealer. Your last video opened my eyes to this. Now i shop around for parts.

Toyota. Please keep an eye on your dealerships. Don’t let them tarnish your brand with late-stage Capitalism greed. I’ve noticed dealerships opening, closing, moving, changing ownership, etc. more over the last 10 years than ever before. Some of these operators are not good people. Listen, we want Toyota Master Service Techs making bank AND we want them training the next generation of Master Service Techs! We also want the dealerships to make healthy profits because we find great value and utility and even great joy in our Toyota vehicles. But we can’t walk in to a dealership service department expecting a SCAM. There’s NOTHING healthy about that experience. Toyota owners are VERY loyal to the brand. Please help us maintain great, long term relationships with great Toyota dealerships.
