40 here. I stopped eating sugar in my 20s. In my 30s I eliminated bread and pasta. I'm in the best shape of my life. Start small. You can do it.

As someone who used to eat a lot of sugar, I see this as an absolute win.

I'm experiencing exactly the same process, like stop eating too much sugar. It's a painful and slow process at first. One interesting thing is once you slowly getting away from it, food full of sugar does not tempting anymore and your body starts to reject eating it. My first change was good sleep, improved eye vision and one very important thing!

Reduced sugar to no more than 30 grams a day Christmas 2023. Was 92 kilos. Made no other changes.

Today January 22, 2024 84 kilos.

Took about a week to stop wanting sugar. Ate two oranges a day to compensate.

Now no desire for sugar.

You can do it. It’s far easier than you think.

Saw a picture of myself ten years ago. I quickly realized how awful I look now. I cut out sugar yesterday and am already feeling it.

I quit smoking, I quit drinking, I quit drinking coffee or tea. I don't do drugs, and now I gotta stop the sugar beast? Man, when I was younger I liked my salty snacks, then I started liking the sugar ones more. It's the only vice I have left. I've fought my vices before, and won, I can do it again.

The sugar in fruit is not the same as refined sugar. I never cut fresh fruit out and eat as much of it as I feel like. The sugar in fruit does not make you fat or effect us in the same way as refined sugar. But hey, who doesn’t love a good sugar fix every now and again…..I know I do.

Sugar needs to be classified as a hard drug. It functions on the opioid pathways similarly to many hard drugs. Declare it as a drug then get people treatment for their addictions.

I cut out added sugar a few years ago and massively reduced intake of sugary foods. Took me about six weeks of withdrawal, but once through that it felt amazing. I still eat sweet foods, but now as a small treat after my evening meal - two or three pieces of chocolate that I melt rather than chew.

I made lots of dietary changes in phases, but the two that helped most to get away from sugary foods were switching to full-fat milk and having nuts as a snack if I needed a quick hit between first meal (late breakfast) and second (evening meal).

Soda is the most evil of all. On April 1st i completely quit drinking soda (used to drink several cans every day) and ive lost 40 pounds over the last 6 months and i really didn't change much else with my diet. I drink pretty much nothing but water now... and beer on weekends 😂

When i was 30 I was 425lbs and diabetic. I drank mountain dew and ate alot of candy. I hate the way i felt. I went sugar free and it was torture for a month. After that I started dropping that weight. I lost 60lbs just from not drinking mountain dew.

It’s day 3 of no sugar and I’m STUGGLING big time. Because I’m a minor, I don’t have control of what my parents bring in the house and my dad just bought a ton of sugar cereal 😭

I’m on week 10 of substantially lowering my added sugar and it working out fairly well. I did not cut out natural sugars that come from fruits and vegetables. My target is less than 35 grams, where the new FDA guideline is 50 grams. Keep in mind the average American consumption is more like 80 grams. Believe me, it is tough to cut back since added sugar is in every thing. To help out, I opted for lower glycemic sweeteners such as maple sugar and fruit fructose (3 and 4 grams per teaspoon respectively).

I had way worse withdrawal symptoms from quitting sugar than from nicotine. Massive headaches, restlessness, irritation, moodswings, and problems with staying focused. I used to smoke 1, 5 packs a day. Soon 4 years without nicotine.

I cut out excess sugar a few years ago and honestly the difference is crazy. I feel less stodgy, more healthy, more able to concentrate, my mental health is better, just everything. I snack a lot less and when I do, I replace sugary treats with fruit (still sugar, but more natural).

What he says at the end matches my experience too. If I eat something too sweet nowadays it actually gives me a headache.

Overall, not really any downsides and a bunch of positives.

I was diagnosed about 6 years ago with adult onset type II beetus. I cut out all "added sugars" from diet pretty much overnight, as I've never had much of a sweet tooth in my adult life. Not long after, my diabetes was diet-controlled, no longer requiring Glucophage or insulin to maintain. I also avoid simple starches, to be fair, like potatoes and rice, but fortunately my true love is pasta, and so long as it's the semolina kind, I've had no problems eating it as I please

Some people do react by bingeing after eating a little sugar. Sugar addiction is a real thing. I can't have just a little bit. I just makes me want more and more. It's never enough.
