We Tried a 3 Day Water Fast, Here's What Happened

A 3-day water fast is a type of fasting where you consume nothing but water for 72 hours.

It's a more extended fast compared to the common 24-hour fasts and is usually done for potential health benefits like weight loss, improved insulin sensitivity, or autophagy (a cellular process where the body cleans out damaged cells).

Duration: 3 days (72 hours)
Consumption: Only water with unflavored electrolytes. We consumed around a gallon a day.
Preparation: It's recommended to gradually reduce food intake in the days leading up to the fast.
Breaking the fast: It's important to ease back into eating with light, easily digestible foods like bone broth.

Risks: It's crucial to consult a healthcare professional before attempting a 3-day water fast, especially if you have any underlying health conditions. Potential risks include dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and low blood sugar. Water fasting is not suitable for everyone. Always prioritize your health and safety, and seek professional guidance if you're considering this practice.

I did a three day fast about six months ago and the worst thing about it I noticed was not the hunger but the boredom. I never realize how much eating breaks up my day until I couldn’t do it anymore. Not eating makes life really boring lol

Tomorrow I am finishing my 7 day water fast. All I can say is "Oh boy, am I grateful for having food in our lives". This made me a better and even more grateful person than before.

Much love from Bulgaria ❤

I did fast few years ago 5.5 days only water. My eyes (the white part) got super clean, all blackheads/oily skin was gone. My mustache and beard got black (otherwise its dark brown). 4th-5th day the time and experiencing daily activities was almost like meditation state. Very slow, calm, observing and even deep thoughts. Overall Interesting.

I did a 7 day water fast, after 3 days I was no longer hungry, never tired, never bloated, felt much better.

Crazy timing. I'm 64 hours into a 72 hours fast. I do it every few months and it definitely gets easier. So convenient not having to plan/prep for meals.

Fuck yeah, thank you for your service once again Buff Dudes! Slightly off topic and not sure how interested the rest of your audience would be but it would be awesome to see a video on Brandon's art journey. He's got a sick style and the art section of the social media video inspired me to start drawing. You guys are nothing short of inspirational! Stay buff.

I'm an owner operator truck driver and do crossfit/weight lifting/running to keep in shape. I did fasts while on long trips because my activity was low. I would drink electrolytes and black coffee and that was it and never had issues doing the longer fast. I did start out with intermittent fasting before doing it. I had extreme mental clarity, not having to stop or deal with eating, and has been significant to breaking through certain weight plateaus. Also, one time got a terrible stomach bug and couldn't go an hour without going to the bathroom. Anddd then had a 3 day job so I couldn't afford the havoc if I did eat so I forced a 3 day fast to not have one of those nightmares while driving lol

Also, giving up coffee as well was also probably an issue with fatigue and irritability. Would not recommend giving that up at the same time.

As someone who has diverticulitis, I have to do 2-4 day water fasts a few times a year to make sure I don't get any flare ups. Cool to see you guys try this!

Super awesome. It wasn't so much the fast as it was the personal reflections and connections with oneself that was my favorite part. 💪

you can just hear the sass in Hudson's voice at the end of the video. Hell of an accomplishment despite turning you into a moody teenager. Great work guys and Aga

I feel you Brandon. I've done a few 72-hour fasts, and one 96-hour fast, and that shit never gets easier. The extreme fatigue and hunger never went away and all I could do was lay in bed. Next time, I am going to try going keto for a few days before to give my body a head start on getting into fat-adaptation mode as I feel that may help things. Good video!

May 2023 I did a 14 day water fast/ate healthy no carb next 2 days/immediately did a 10 day water fast/ate healthy no carb next 2 days/immediately 7 day water fast/ate healthy 2 days/5 day water fast etc. etc.. etc... Lost 50 lbs. first 3 months: May 1st 2023 - August 1st 2023. Now August 2024 I've lost 75 lbs. 255-180 lbs at 5'-11", 61 yrs old. No more high blood pressure & heart medications and quit cigarettes "cold turkey". All this in 15-16 months. Time to join the gym to start lifting "soft bulking" to tone out. Haven't felt this good in over 25-30 years. All I had during my water fasting is salt every 3 days "you need salt" and multi-vitamin everyday. Also drank not daily ZERO "no sugar" Gatorade to help w/electrolytes & nutrients.

I fasted for 11 days, and the biggest impact was it completely cleared my mental fog. The other change was that I wasn't bloated and my hair felt thicker. However, I will say I was around 20% body fat. My buddy, at 12%, body fat, did not have a good experience, he was more like Brandon. Even so I highly recommend fasting to anyone.

I do 3 days once per month. Really helps me to comtrol my food addiction.

I also do a 10 day when approaching a spiritually significant event (like my wedding) when i need to be close to god. I will say, prayer keeps me in it more than my own self control.

Love the transparency on how they showed the “rebound” effect at the end of the video and how it wasnt sustainable long term! Great job lads..cheers
