Who are Kara and Nate?!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.

We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)

So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.

Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this channel to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.

4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time!

After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time international traveling! And now we are in our 9TH YEAR of finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)

We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!

I’M 71. Message to every 21yr old +. Do all the things that make you happy, or move you. DON’T fit life into work. Work to fit life into your schedule like these two do. At every opportunity, do the 100 m walk, or the Everest run, or the whatever. don’t sacrifice your real life for work. I learned that too late. But I’m still catching up! Congratulations you guys.

People knowing how much Kara needs her morning coffee and showing up to give it too her is love.

I might be in the minority but I actually appreciate the complaining. Lol. It makes it feel more realistic and while I know you guys technically CHOSE to sign up for it, I think knowing how hard it is adds to the video and shows us the real side of y’all. I appreciate jt. But I’m so proud of you all for doing this! I could never. Lol

I'm Dutch and I never realized how important it is to go there to cheer people on. I've had friends and family telling me they were going to participate and I'd say: 'Cool, have fun' but it never occurred to me to support them from the side of the road (because I don't like masses)... You made me realize what a huge difference this makes. Thanks for this insight, it was so fun to watch!

Mad respect to you Kara for finishing the longest distance of the '4-Daagse' untrained. Here in the Netherlands people train and prepare for a long time to be able to finish this event and you just show up and do it, unheard of! Kudo's to Nate as well of course for crushing this together.🎉

"You'll never walk alone!"

Hi, im a 14 year old from England who's been so scared to interact with people for two years. I've been in a really low mental state and your videos are something i greatly look forward to. Leaving my house was something I couldn't push myself to do but what you said at the end of the video really got to me. I'm going to my sisters house tomorrow and i know that's not hard to a lot of people but to me its such a huge achievement. Thank you so much :)

I ❤ de4Daagse. Last year I walked this course together with my mom. A small explanation on the colours along the way. Blue day is because you walk between the rivers, pink Wednesday is because everyone is celebrated ❤, Green Thursday as you walk through forests and across the green hills of Groesbeek. Orange Friday as orange is the Dutch colour and orange is also the colour of the 4Daagse flag. The st. Anna street which is the last street towards the finish is called Via Gladiola during this week, as every walker receives Gladiolen (gladiolas) as a reward.

As someone from Nijmegen I can say you guys experienced the Vierdaagse completely the right way!! It's about the pain, the people, the generosity and the comradery.

It's in my DNA. I was born and raised in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Still live here. I've been sitting by the side of the road to cheer for the walkers since I was a baby! So cool to see you guys have participated!!

Just wanted to remind people who might see this comment that “going and doing something hard” doesn’t always mean going and walking for four days straight or running an ultra marathon. If all you achieve is walking to the shops or doing your dishes at the end of the day when these tasks feel impossible you have done amazingly! Everyone’s Everest will look different to each other’s, don’t downgrade your achievements because they don’t look as impressive as someone’s else’s on paper ❤

Omg that’s me in Beers! 😍
It was SO lovely meeting both of you! The fact that you took the time to meet me (& your fans) even though you’ve walked for so long is truly kind and inspiring 😄
I’m very proud of you for completing the 4Daagse! 👏🏻

💕Love from the Netherlands 💕

Kara’s ankle is the reason why people wear hiking boots. They’re heavy, and feel cumbersome but so much better than overstretched ligaments and tendons. You guys are awesome and I’m wishing you sturdy ankles and excellent circulation in future events.

Fun fact; The medal is actually a royal award, hence the large number of soldiers participating in the event. They are allowed to wear the medal on their uniform.

I'm a former American (now Dutch) who has lived in Nijmegen 7 years and also walked the Vierdaagse this year for the 2nd time! People who have never been here before really don't know how amazing this event is, so thank you so much for sharing the beauty of the Vierdaagse and CONGRATULATIONS for finishing! I hope you join again, since the feeling of accomplishment can be addicting - also you get cooler and cooler medals with each walk :)

That’s me at 57:11!! 🤩🌸

It was so lovely meeting you and chatting with you. Thanks for bringing so much positive energy to the Vierdaagse!

So proud of you both for finishing. With or without training, this is such an accomplishment! And Kara, I wish your feet a speedy recovery! 🙈

Much love from Nijmegen 💖

I just stumbled upon this video. I'm from Nijmegen and walked the 40k in 2011 at age 16. At 50:45 you happened to zoom in on the bell tower of the church where my granddad attended, sang in the choir, and where his funeral was. I was incredibly close with him and he was the first loved on in my life to pass away. He died on the 25th of June 2011 and was buried a few days later. So that small zoom is very special to me. I had completely forgotten that I walked the Vierdaagse so shortly after his death, together with my mother, who had just lost her father. Thanks for making me realise that.

For both of you, finishing this march is a real achievement! Especially for Kara, doing it untrained, that's incredibly impressive. Hats off!
