It's a beautiful and true doctrine, we shouldn't remove it. And even if we did, it wouldn't change anything. So let's not compromise the truth

I understand the desire for unity, but the filioque is so fundamental to my understanding of the Trinity. My mind was utterly blown when someone explained to me how human sexuality and reproduction mirror Trinitarian love.

I don’t think even doing that would get the Eastern “Orthodox” to come back

The Filioque was not "removed" from the Eastern churches because they never said it in the first place. It is not the same as if the Latin church removed it.

In fact, the Filioque is dogma. If the Eastern orthodox refuse to accept it doctrinally then that's their problem. The Eastern Catholics do believe in the Filioque but only did not add it to their liturgy. Its not a meaningless thing to just throw away for the sake of ecumenism.

Think it would be better for both sides to come up with something that we both accept in a council format. Something that upholds the truth of the dogmatically declared statement, but in a forum and a format our brothers could accept without feeling dominated by the West.

I personally feel like the filioque is not a substantial reason to divide us. To me thats inside baseball, inside discussion and i dont think its something that should ruin relationships. I think theres not a clear answer from scripture one way or another, its not worth losing a brother or sister over it. If we gotta keep it aside for the sake of unity im ALL for it.

Why?, , leave it. I will continue to pray it in the original format, 🙏 love God , ,, The father and the son, and the Holy Spirit ❤

From what I understand, a lot of the controversy around the filioque was less about theology and more about ecclesiology, namely the Orthodox objecting to a papal decree made outside of an ecumenical council. Is that correct or is there some legitimate theological difficulty between Catholics and Orthodox on this matter?

The filioque is at this point in history a relic, important distinction of a divide, but the paths have diverged much more than a theological difference in the creed.

Particularly since Vatican II. No?

Revelation 22 greatly supports the I think Christ was being rhetorical when He said the spirit proceeds from the father

Here's the thing. If the Spirit has an origin in the Father and an origin in the Son, then the Spirit is a composite being of the Spirit that comes from the Father and the Spirit that comes from the Son. Only if you agree that every bit of the Spirit that came from the Son came from the Father first, do you preserve the Oneness and Personhood and Simplicity of the Holy Spirit.

The filioque controversy was and is a symptom of another doctrinal question: papal supremacy.

I mean...Christ breathed the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.

What in the world are you doing in NY? You can have my share of that place.

Nope. Leave it. Not all unity is okay. Should we unify with Mormons? Jehovah Witnesses? Hebrew Israelites? No, we need to stay true to Scripture.
