Yeah I always do the TDC on compression stroke method but I am usually by myself and usually never in a hurry.

This may be out dated knowledge, but waaay back 1983 I had a 71 Chevelle SS. I used to have to reset valves with the car running, the ones that are clacking, tighten till it stops, then tighten 1/4 turn. Is that even done that way anymore? Can get messy though! 😂

Hm, a lot of loose lashes there. Hope that doesn’t mean something bad is happening. Have heard Steve Morris say many times that if lash has changed significantly that something in the valve train is broken.

I can lash those valves in 2 rotations, inspect the plugs and save a lot wear and tear on starter and ring. You are saying bump and I am hearing crunch. bump bump bump crunch crunch crunch. Write the four positions and the corresponding valves down.
