Many newer 2-stroke scooter motors have reed valve. Reeds will wear out over time. If your scooter has a hard time starting or has a hard time idling, you may need to inspect your reed valves. Here is the procedure. Please subscribe to our channel.

Its always the vids that are a decade old that are the most helpful

Had a nasty misfire when loading my 250r. Got to the dunes and it just wouldn’t start first thing in the morning. Had to dump fuel in it to start, after that it ran ok, sluggish low end power. Compression tested, 210psi @ 50degrees. Pulled the carb apart. Very clean. Pulled the reeds, and all 4 of the carbon fiber v force reeds were cracked and not sealing

Sure, flip them around, and keep doing that till they disintegrate and your engine ends up ingesting them... Then you WILL know what happens when 2 strokes ingest plastic (glassfibre etc) reeds..
On a serious note, you should never flip them over. REPLACE them. Pull a set off ebay or something, they are cheap there! Yes, you can flip them as a temp measure, but only provided that they look to be 100% otherwise, ie no signs of chipping, and very slight distortion. If they are damaged (frayed etc) or badly distorted DO NOT FLIP THEM. You have been warned...
AND ALWAYS USE A THREAD LOCKING COMPOUND ON THESE SCREWS!!! You would not believe what I've seen over the years when they come loose and drop in the crank...

Area open to mix flow in a R-V and cage system  is better set at 90% of Carburetor's Venturi or out tube area. For low rpm operation, fewer, short Reeds of hard material do better; for high rmp performance, many Reeds, of soft and light material, and of a long size are the ones indicated. Yamaha re-started using this concept around 1978, and Vic Willoughby / Top Racing  summarized their research. Pyramid patented a R-V cage having Reeds opening in the four sides, and not just in two as usual.

I know this is an older vid but thanks for posting this. I am working on a friends Dinli 50cc and it bogs down doesnt idle right most of the time. I had suspected the reed valves but wasnt 100% sure. Think that will be my next step.
Thanks take care.

I'm gonna check em out on my CR125 cuz the bike has been acting up a little but gaskets are all good and stuff. it's an old bike, really think it's the carb.

Awesome. Thanks. I inherited a KX60 dirt bike. I've only been able to run it for a few seconds one time. It refuses to run otherwise. I removed the reed valve and found a gap in one side of about .040 or so.on both of the reeds. I'm hoping that's the problem. Any thoughts?

Can confirm, if you get a used Zuma 50 2T replace your Reeds with Carbon Fiber ones and get a new manifold while you have the bike apart. Feels like a new bike haha.

If you don't know how old your reeds are than replace them, its easier to replace reeds than to dig them out of your cylinder or have chunks come out in your next oil change, however once their replaced flip them at the BEGINNING of every season and they'll last 15 years... just like flipping your rear tire to get another season...
