Fix Microphone Not Working in Windows 10

This is a quick video on how to troubleshoot audio microphone not working after updating to windows 10. You can use these fixes for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.

Just follow my step by step guide on fixing microphone not working and you should be able to resolve this common mic problem where you can't record audio via the microphone. Sometime you may get Windows 10 not detecting any microphones and if this is the case you can still use these fixes to resolve your microphone issue.

OMG You saved my life!!! Seriously, 10 plus hours of trying everything and all I had to do was go to the privacy settings. I didn't even think of that. 1, 000 thank yous for making this video. Not all heroes wear capes. Unless you do wear a cape in which case maybe they all do haha.

mic access was turned off, i dont remember ever changing that option though.. this video helped tremendously!

i have realtek HD audio manager i can only hear through my headphones but my mic doesn't pick up on sound any solutions ?

the Privacy step is what fixed mine, apparently I had my mic off for all apps.

Thanks man. I'd dumb and got all sketched out so I did disable the mic in Windows Privacy settings. I completely forgot and was wondering why it wasn't working no matter what I was trying. Thanks for going through all of the possible options. Guys, if you can't get your mic to work, just be patient and follow everything he does. My headset work but my mic doesn’t even though it says I have it plugged in I even went to the store to get a new headset but my mic still doesn’t work

If you are using a hyper x product make sure your mic is fully plugged in and non of the grey part is showing
If your headsets are recognized as speaker and the mic is not working go to hyperx frequently asked questions and you will get a fix quickly.
You can also go to realtek audio manger and make sure “make front and rear output devices playback 2 different steams simultaneously “ is turned on and choose the second mic

7m15s - privacy setting for microphone was disabled with W10 update build 1909. I would have never guessed going to Privacy setting for a microphone! Thank you Britec09
