Joe’s studio decoration finally fits the topic. They all sit inside an artery pretending to be lipoproteins. ❤️

Listening to this dude makes me realise how little I actually know about stuff.

If I never found this guy I wouldn't be in the shape I'm in today. I tried to eat the same foods he does I'm in my 40s and I felt better now than I did in my 20s

Well this could really upset a lot of life insurance companies who have been loading (charging higher percentage of premiums) based on a person’s high cholesterol. A smart lawyer could run a problematic class action against an insurance company

I clicked expecting to disagree with the discussion, based on previous discussions of this content. As a biochemist focusing on lipid metabolism, I'm actually pleasantly surprised. My current studies are likely to demonstrate why high LDL can be indicative of improved immune response, rather than causative, but other than that I'm just shocked that this discussion was so good.

Very interesting stuff! I used to be humongous, 350lbs. Type 2 diabetic. Hypertension. Hypotriglyceridemia, and as a result would get pancreatitis all the time. And a lot of what this guy is talking about sounds related to what my body was going through. Still diabetic but I lost a lot of the weight, and not getting pancreatitis like I used to. I'm very intrigued in what this guy is looking at, hopefully learn ways to fine tune my diet to work better, and keep me out of hospitals.

what medical school says to this:
fat and fatty molecules, like cholesterol, cannot just be in the blood as they are, they need to be put in lipoprotein vesicles.

LDL: low density lipoprotein, is formed in the liver (which is like the center of metabolism) to provide cholesterol and fat for the cells in your body. the cells in your body have receptors to receive these necessary molecules. but if they don't need more, they will stop building those receptors. so the LDL will stay in the blood. and at some point it will alter the blood flow and chemical homeostasis so much that there will be more inflammatory and thrombotic events in your vascular system. this means higher risk of stroke, heart attack and so on.

HDL: high density lipoprotein, is formed by the cells, to bring cholesterol and fats they don't need to the liver.

high LDL and low HDL: the LDL is stuck in your vascular system.
high LDL and high HDL: higher metabolism, so more LDL is actually used in the cells, as part of a working metabolism. it is not "stuck", but just transported more often at the same time.

Two years ago, I had an anxiety attack that I thought was a heart attack. I checked in to the hospital, where they calmed me down, checked me out, and gave me a clean bill of health. BP, 112/72; resting heart rate, 54 BPM; cholesterol, 158 with optimum levels of HDL and LDL.

Eleven months ago, I had, and obviously survived, a widowmaker heart attack - 99+% blockage of the Left Anterior Descending artery.

They told me that the most likely explanation is what they called a plaque blister. Tissue covers build up of plaque, then ruptures, sending it downstream where it eventually gathers and creates a complete or near complete blockage. There are perfectly healthy people with 35% blockages. But, if that plaque dislodges and gathers at an artery bend, the result is, well, bad.

Having experienced both an anxiety attack and a real heart attack, I now know the difference. They're nothing whatsoever alike.

This may be the first and only time I've had to set a podcast play speed slower

That's why my LDL was higher than normal when I did my blood work. I was fasting for more than 36 hours at the time my blood was extracted.

I started IF, very low carb, good fats, all organic and my LDL went up 115 points, triglycerides went back down (lost 10 pounds) from 60 to my normal 26. Since that last blood work, I've gone Carnivore. My physician is worried, stumped and I feel great. Thanks guys!

I do a 20 hour fast 3 times per week and just found out that my total cholesterol and LDL was “high”. This video was so timely and eye opening.

This dude's using a much higher % of his brain than I am. It's extremely interesting, a bit intimidating, yet very motivating.

This discussion is an excellent presentation of my experience. I lost 80pds on keto. Have kept it off for years eating mostly protein and fats. My LDL jumped way up but so did my HDL. I’m very lean and have never felt better but my doc put me on a statin. It balanced my cholesterol out but now I’m concerned that I maybe shouldn’t take the statin. So frustrating to feel absolutely awesome and be told my numbers are frightening.

Closer you can get to eating backyard garden vegetables, ducks, chickens and maybe goat the better. Slow cooker stews with backyard food is good too IMO.

Saladino is who Rogan needs to have on to debate the Vegans. I haven't seen anyone that can just rattle off the science and studies off the top of his head like he can. He knows this stuff inside and out.

Joe you have to get Dave Feldman on! I’m a Strength Coach and have been following him for a couple years and fit the lean mass hyper responder model. Dave deserves to be in main stream conversation. His work will destroy all the bad nutrition messaging from the 60’s such as food pyramid, cholesterol, insulin, diabetes treatment, etc...

Time to shake up the world!
