We’re onto day 3 of getting our sourdough starters going from scratch! My new starter saw a surge of activity today, but if yours did not, do not fret! Trust in the process and keep going! It is also normal that even if you did see activity today that it might die down tomorrow before it picks back up again.

Let me know down in the comment section how its going for you! And what is your starter name?

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! I have been trying for weeks to get a starter growing. I followed the directions from King Arthur (twice), because that's the flour I'm using, and I was not successful. Then I bought a package of San Francisco starter cultures, followed those directions, and it didn't grow. Finally, I found your video series and followed your directions and wow!! Only Day 3, and Bettie is thriving already! (Yes, I named my starter in your honor) I'm seeing the bubbles and growth finally. There is definitely a difference in texture. All the others were more liquidy than yours. I'm so appreciative of you sharing your knowledge! Thank you!

So, this is about the 4 th starter I've started in about 5 years. I have always had good results and have made yummy bread, though the results have been inconsistent. (I always start using mine around day 5 to 7) I think this is why my breads weren't consistent. Soooo this go around I'm going to wait 10 days and let my starter get nice and mature. My second issue I think has always been knowledge, life would get busy and I'd neglect my starter or totally forget about it, then I was just plain old scared to attempt to revive it... Through the years there has been such an increase in sourdough videos... I have watched countless, but yours and your teaching style are definitely my favorite... So here I am on Day 3 with Celia and I'm in love as always. I look forward to feeling her dough in my hands... I'm praying that I have learned enough to really nurture this relationship properly... 😂😂😂😂 Here's to a long future with my Celia, may my grandkids grandkids treat her well!! Thank you Betty!!

My starter is performing just like you said! I am so so happy! Thank you for making these easy to follow, day by day videos!

I have named it Renny. Renny means 'small and mighty' or 'compact strength'. It is a unisex name with Celtic origin. My little starter, that I started December 14, 2020, is small but I can see its strength making many many loaves of deleicious bread for many years. I will also share it with friends and family so it can give joy and incredible bread to many families. Thank you Bettie, for helping me bring Renny to life:-)

Can’t believe how good Granny is doing. I’ve tried before but didn’t know what I was doing. Having daily instructions is awesome. My alarm is set for 3pm each day. It’s winter in Tasmania and cold but Granny is still working.

I saw a huge activity last night before bed by this morning my dough starter had calmed back down and ready to be fed in a couple of hours later this morning.

Thank you for this series! I experienced the “false start” you describe on day 2-3 followed by inactivity the next two days. I would definitely have thought I made a grievous error if I hadn’t already watched and been reassured by your video :)

I can’t thank you enough for these amazing videos and making it so easy to understand and follow. My starter, Sally, just had her day three feeding and I was so happy to see so much activity from Day 2 to Day 3!! So excited!!

Thank you for videos! You saved me from my unsuccessful starter. Adding rye flour and warm water made a difference!

My son & I started one with different ratios/instructions from another source & it didn't do well. So we are on Day 2 using your lovely videos & wonderful explanations :) We named ours Hugo after a character in one of my son's favorite book series called Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. Thank you so much for all the great instruction!!

I did a starter for four days and it got off to a great start but had nearly 12ml of what you called Hooch on it every day. Today I threw it away and started again. Thanks for sharing with us - Cheers Morgs
