this show has some good aspects like the makeovers, and gives out pretty good advice. however, there is this disregard for personal style and aesthetics in favor of what is deemed “acceptable” in skinny, white, and “modest” american society’s eye. like if people arent going to able to express their own personalities in these new clothes, then whats the point of a makeover?

Client: “I like goth/Japanese styles.”

Stylist: “So what I’m hearing is that you love the 50 year old English teacher vibe”

The worse part is that they weren't even on the show because they didn't like their style; they were nominated by OTHER PEOPLE who didn't like their style and wanted to force it away from them

The blonde girl was literally begging them not to sexualize her outfits 🤦 they're unnecessarily rude af.

Apparently "vivacious and edgy" means "outfits acceptable for jury duty"

I can just TELL that black Lolita girl did not like ANY of the outfits. Her face says it all😭 I really liked that dress she was wearing before the transformation it was cute (but not so much Lolita)

“I don’t wanna look like a sexual object I just want to look like a cute present” iconic

This show should be called “how to let go of your personality and join corporate society”

I literally hate this show. Every single person who has ever been on this show has been dressed like a middle aged elementary school teacher.

I really love that Stacey realized how toxic the show was and promised to never to anything like it. We love a self aware celeb

Stacey London has really changed since the show, she is actually an advocate for wearing what you want, even if it’s not “in style”. She is my favorite, you’ve got to watch her more recent interviews!

all they did was make them dress like English teachers

The hosts are so NEEDLESSLY mean!! 🙃 "Your old clothes suck, and you have no style. Wear this mom fit."

They really turned the lolita girl into a 38 year old, school secretary who thinks she runs the school

I believe Stacey London has commented on the show in the last couple of years, she expressed regret and said that as she’s gotten older she’s found the importance and meaning in finding and being yourself, and also just allowing yourself to have fun with fashion. I think she mentioned that she realized the show stopped people from feeling comfortable with themselves and finding joy in fashion (I don’t remember the exact wording she used)

they did that blonde girl SO dirty, her outfits had actual personality and highkey that purple dress looked good as hell on her

The outfits they recommended literally scream middle aged white woman who would definitely insult a teenager in a walmart parking lot

I would never trust advice from a man who puts a flannel shirt under a gray blazer and jeans

In the most monotone voice ever
“I’m a fun person”
Girly you don’t need to dress to someone else’s standards to be pretty and have fun. Tell them what YOU want to wear and have them pick you out pieces you love. This show makes me sad, fashion is such a big part of my life. And they are applying ONE “aesthetic” to a huge variety of people.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt uncomfortable about this show. It's not just that Stacy and Clinton were forcing their own ideas of style on people until they learned to accept it, but the whole concept of the show is that *the guests were brought on by their family or friends, not willingly themselves.* It was always an intervention where other people thought someone should change rather than accepting their personal style, and in most of the episodes you could see the people chosen were clearly uncomfortable before deciding to continue with the episode (due to peer pressure and being hounded by cameras). The hosts also usually threw away the guests' old clothes which is... completely stripping them of their personal identity??

The moral of the show was that we should be judging people if they dressed alternatively or in any way that wasn't the day's conventional sense of style and I'm glad we've moved on to accept that everyone has their own way of dressing themselves :p
