Birnbaum has a cleanest resume winning all the biggest high school races: Arcadia, Hoka, and now Brooks. I bet he will win Nike too.

I was wondering how they would go sub 8:40 with such slow lap splits until I saw that gutsy surge with 1200m left to go as they began to crank it up, that last lap was very impressive from Birnbaum and Burns! I have to think that would indicate a sub 8:30 with even pacing all the way, no?

Simeon is unbeatable right now. He rises to the challenge of winning no matter who he's racing.

I remember Vic Reeve of Oregon taking second in the NCAA final 2 mile with an 8:58 (ya, there used to be a 2 mile) 8th place here was faster than that old time. Great young athletes.

Birnbaum just running a beautiful race. Jumping to first to set a position, letting someone else work the wind, staying in touch, not rushing the pass, finding 700m out to be suboptimal, making the move at 500m out, protecting the spot at 200m out to glide into that curve, and dumping the tank into that last 100m. All that strategy while he and the rest of that lead group is dropping sub 8:40! Impressive.

Great race! It's awesome to see three guys fighting to the end!

Downright impressive how the commentators manage to never mention the finishing/winning time, nor do they call out the current time as the race was going on. He said some splits, but they didn't even tell us the time at the 1mile mark. Fantastically inept & annoying as a spectator

University of Oregon’s future is looking bright with Birnbaum.

While it nice to seem competition in track the ultimate test is the clock. Where is it. Are these guys going for Ryun's AJR of 8:25.6 or are they running at 11 minute pace. In an 8 lap race they called splits on 6 laps, always after the fact and never a running time.

Bro is from South Dakota. These guys are pretty much almost on pro level that's insanity

What are we thinking for Nike Nats? Who’s taking the W - Leo or Lex, or Simeon or Conner?

Come on Runnerspace. No clock on the screen? Announcers didn't give a 1 mile split?

Haven't seen anyone that can outkick Birnbaum. i think he runs just hard enough to win.

Extremely impressive times! Not to be nitpicky, but I think because they run on a track with no inner edge, only cones on the curves, they should compensate the distance by about 4, 5 m back from the original start of 2 miles to make it valid. I'm sure many meets don't compensate like that but I recently experienced it myself in a 5000 m district meet, where we had to start around 7 m back from the original start. Cones weren't enough outdoors, only indoors. This was in Sweden, but the organizer consulted international judges about this, so I assume it should apply in the US as well.
