Is it safe to eat a bruised banana? Microscope PROOF!

Our banana friends are at it again with some outrageous microscope videos!

A video was recently posted to a microscope channel which showed worms in the bruised part of a banana -

I think this is fake.

Whilst not all bananas are worm free, I am willing to bet that the majority are okay and fine to eat. In this case, bruised does not equate to rotten!

Go ahead, you have my approval to eat bananas.

Thank you for busting myths one viral video at a time. These deserve more views than the fakes. Sadly, people are typically fueled by fear and tend to gravitate towards sharing scary potentially false information rather than true fact checkers 😆

You know, the brown marks are actually a sign that the bananas are finally ripe, that’s why monkeys actually prefer bananas with brown spots, they’re sweeter because they contain more fructose, or fruit sugar if you will. Green bananas are totally unripe, and will usually taste bitter if you try to eat them, they have to be ripened first, and when they turn their signature yellow, that’s actually only the first part of the ripening process, it’s not actually fully ripe until the first brown spot appears.

The brown spots are just "caramelized" sugars going brown.
It's the best part.
Right before it goes bad.

You deserve the millions of views those fake videos get. Your videos are original, well thought-out and put together nicely. Your videos are not too long, not too short —your videos are interesting because my attention span has plenty more to give. The root of the problem is that your videos —as much as they are interesting and informative, they are not a topic or area that many people are going to be searching for, but if directed to by the YouTube algorithm, be completely engrossed in. Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t alter it too much -the mixture is perfect. I reckon you would get some big-hit videos by looking at popular/trendy snacks or lollies, like Japanese gummies or something. Idk how amazing that will look under a microscope.

I love your videos and thank you for contributing to the total 1% of Youtube videos that are actually worth your time watching and not just junk.
Love from Brisbane, Australia. ❤

Brown spots on bananas can come from two things. It's either bruising like said in the video, or it's just Ethylene. Ethylene is the chemical compound responsible for ripeness in a banana and it turns banana from green, to yellow and then it gets overly ripe and becomes brown.

Those aren't worms. They're fruit fly larvae and it's actually quite common to find them in fruits like bananas, guavas etc. so doesn't necessarily mean the original video was fake!

God, I hate those videos with a passion because I'm horrified of food. Seeing one video like those can result in me starving myself for weeks, refusing to eat out of fear. So thank you for examining it lol
