How to Build a Memory Palace

Long ago I read that Cicero used this method (or one similar) to remember his speeches. He would choose the columns in the Senate and use each column for a certain topic in his speech. I've never forgotten reading about it. This is the closest description I've seen to what I read then and is so useable.
