Elden Ring is awesome but even the biggest fans have some minor complaints and grievances. Here are some examples.

I actually really like the chest teleports. You never know where you're going to end up and a lot of them show off really cool areas I need to go in the future which acts as a nice incentive to keep going and exploring.

The actual No 1 is a double annoyance: Resurrecting Torrent
Step 1: Get a message informing you that you are about to use a flask to resurrect Torrent (which will lock everything but basic movement until accepted/declined)
Step 2: It's defaulted to NO (making you swap to the D-Pad, so not even able to move anymore, to change it to YES)

I had my wife play who has never played any souls games and she kept getting mad cuz she thought all the messages on the ground were from the devs so she just kept jumping off cliffs and everything. It was actually pretty funny watching it and not helping her

#1 for me has to be platforming. Like, I think I died more times trying to jump down to the 3 fingers than I did to Malenia and Maliketh combined.

I watched my buddy fight Margit. And Margit really likes to hold his attacks and wait till you panic dodge your all your stamina away. Margit walked towards my buddy with his arm up in the air charging an attack. So naturally as anyone would, my buddy panic dodged all his stamina away. And the mad-lad Margit is, decided not to even attack my buddy lol. He just put his arm down and jumped backwards. I swear sometimes the bosses know when you're not ready to actually fight them and they toy with you

I'm new to this franchise. I've never played a game that does so much to piss you off and make you accept you aren't built for this and wasted 60 bucks. AND I LOVE IT. Such a unique experience.

My biggest problem with this game is that you're tied to Google if you want to actually complete many quests. It's just impossible to know what utterly convoluted steps you have to take unless you google it. Especially when you can out-time quests and not meet requirements. Even with a step by step google guide it can be difficult

My first experience with the game: I immediately turned around after getting into Limgrave at base level which was 9. Immediately stumbled on that treasure chest and ended up in that cave. I fought my way out but was still in the middle of Caelid, and I don’t think I had any sites of grace open in Limgrave. So I had to traverse Caelid at level 9 with NO map or knowledge of the game and had the worst time of it. But it made me stronger as a player and gave me this EPIC tier story to tell about it.

One mechanic with the poison swamps that I'm pretty certain is new and was not present in previous games is that if you roll in them, they will stick to your character's upper body and continue to build up the poison meter even after you reach a safe spot.

I actually *LOVED* the chest teleport. At first, I was wandering around aimlessly and couldn’t find any real action. Then BOOM! I’m in the Selia crystal tunnel. When I finally escape, “Holy fuck, why is the sky red!?!?” I could’ve fast traveled back to limgrave after getting to the grace, but I didn’t know I could, since I had just started playing. I didn’t even have my horse yet! 😆 I then went up the hill to find a bunch of horrific big headed dogs and crows. I died against them the first time, so I had to sneak past them the second time to get my runes back. I felt like I was trying to escape Hell, and it was fucking amazing!

I feel like Margit is the game's way of telling you "There's a crap load of stuff you can do before this boss. Do some of it, then come back with decent equipment and stats". I had the Bloodhound's Fang +2 by the time I fought him, and he went down fairly easily.

Fun fact, and yes, I know this is months later: You do NOT have to complete Stormveil Castle to beat the game. You can completely skip Margit and Godrick by finding a secret path around the castle and into the next region.

I feel like Margit is a big example of how heaps of NPCs combat seems heavily inspired by Dancer from DS3; that being like a slightly longer animation where you anticipate getting hit earlier and then get bonked after your i-frames. It's like you need to roll a second later than you think you do

Not being able to compare Armour while in store better be on here

Not that this disqualifies the annoyance, but for those getting caught in transporter traps, you CAN avoid them. Just mash the dodge button when opening any chest and your character will backstep out of the smoke before it catches you.

EDIT: You can also traverse swamps that usually force you to walk by backstepping, which is significantly faster. There are even Weapon Arts that give you exceptional swamp mobility!

When my friends and I first tried Margit we delegated a person to lose so we could see his attack pattern
He did not last 1min

I have such a love-hate relationship with the message system, too. The constant “but hole” “secret path ahead” messages are a staple of the games and it wouldn’t be the same without them, but if I see one more “try two-handing” by those two armors at the Round Table I’ll lose it.

For me Margit was the definition of the “when you do all the side missions first” meme. Was between level 30 and 40 when I fought him.

My favorite note so far: “if only I had a hole, time for seed!” Also I like that there’s no quest markers. I feel like it encourages you to explore which leads to finding cool stuff.

I'm glad they have the whole "If you die before you pick up your runes, you lose them forever" thing because it makes you play a certain way and gives you actual consequence
