Rule of thumb: The more the enemy's looks make you go "wtf is that?!" The higher level it is.

Be sure to change to "two handed" prior to mounting your horse. You will receive the two handed str bonus even though the attack animations show single handed in mounted combat.

Both Margit and the Tree Sentinel were specifically put in the early game to punish players not respecting the open world of Elden Ring and treating it as a linear game. Also as a challenge for pros. This is also why one of the hardest areas of the game (DragonBarrow and Caleid) is adjacent to the starting location. Its a way of showing the player that the game isnt going to hold your hand and its up to you to figure out how to best develop your character.

My tip is read the messages especially near chests. At first i never listened to the trap ahead messages near chests. I learned my lesson after getting teleported to caelid with no way out 😅

"you don't wanna die 40 times right at the start"

Me: sweating perfusely after convincing myself that I could beat the tree sentinel for the 40th tries 😂

The REASON the Tree Sentinel patrolls the main road, is to "encourage" you to go off the main path immediately

1: Dont repeatedly fight the same enemy, go do something else
2: Remove balachins blessing
3: Dont obsess over classes
4: Do not go east in the start, go north or south instead
5: Do not rush through areas and enemies
6: Different enemies have different resitances, dont use the same weapon on every boss
7: Dont forget to 2 hand weapons
8: Do not forget to do NPC quests
9: Do not forget to change out ashes of war to change the damage scaling on a weapon
10: Dont forget to use spirit ashes

The blessing you get from Fia is actually beneficial if you use it when you need it, The amount of poise it gives you is actually really nice against certain boss fights

I was determined to beat that Golden Knight at the beginning. Died to him about 150 times (not an exaggeration) before finally ending his existence. It was glorious.

Another tip that I haven't seen mentioned in a few videos that I'm sure newer players may not catch is Strength requirements. If you have a weapon that has a strength requirement of say 30, you can two-hand it at 20 strength (you only need 66% of the requirement if you two-hand it). The game gives you a message telling you that you can use it effectively two-handed but it can easily be missed if you're just spamming the confirm button. This only works with Strength, not Dexterity or any of the spell based stats.

The amount of fear i have while exploring new areas in this game is crazy

the biggest tip i can give to a new player is: DON'T BE GREEDY

if a boss gave you an opnening to attack, attack once or twice, don't try to full combo them every opening because you will be punished.

also, another really important tip: DON'T BE AFRAID

if a boss is huge, then thats fine, come close to them, hug their feet and start attacking. If you create distance on big enemies your are giving them the chance to hit you while you can't hit them. They have more range, so you gotta play it close to them.

There's a saying in souls games that's "the difficulty of a boss is inversely proportional to their size", you should only fear enemies that are your size or slightly bigger, not the opposite.

One great tip is that when mounted on your horse, you can attack to the right with R1 and R2 and to the left with L1 and L2. Makes horse combat much easier knowing you can attack on either side.

On the Spirit Ashes: I'm a veteran Souls player and thought I would not use them, I started Elden Ring 2handing a Greatsword in Light armor. 55hrs in and Jake is 100% correct, the game EXPECTS you to use Spirit Summons in many different instances. I'm now a Spellsword build having tons of fun just casting from a distance while my summons fight every now & then.

I made it to level 98 before I realized I had to use the lantern, not just put it in a slot.

This was my first souls game, I was told it was good for beginners so I got it, I was lied too, but this was incredibly helpful thanks

I think that my favorite part is that every dungeon is built, seemlessly into the open world. Far too many RPG open worlds just have them behind some loading screen.

Bought this game two days ago and I must say, this game is just amazing. I’m 15hrs in and still at 0% progress of the main story. It’s just that much to explore. I’m not even into this kinda of genre but this game, damn, to anyone who’s still deciding, just pick up this gem and enjoy

Idk if this is common knowledge but with the Bloodhound's Fang, it's special has another step. After pressing your special button if you wait until the end of the animation (when your character kind of kneels down) if you press your heavy attack button during that window, you'll do a second step dashing attack that deals a fair amount of damage.

A great tip for anyone struggling to fight bosses. Even if it takes 100 deaths, keep attempting to dodge the bosses attacks, learn how fast/slow the boss weapon tries to attack you and eventually you'll beat the boss. Doesn't matter how many times you die because its part of the process ❤💪
