I hope they get their software situation sorted, I will always welcome more competition in any market.

That’s about to be a hell of a minivan

The Snapdragon X Elite would well for a gaming Chromebook due to the compatibility for Android apps.

So... I'm gonna have better software support if I install linux on it? Nice.

There is already an ARM version of Windows that works pretty well

I used Parallels on my M1 Mini for a bit and other than Parallels being a bit buggy I had barely any issues with the whole ARM windows thing.

No, there'll be a specific version of windows for ARM

Apple would probably get more money if they sold just the chips, made a socket for them, and put them in pcs

If you use high end, non-apple BT headphones you basically need their chips, you can get them as external USB-C adaptors for e.g. Bluetooth 5 support and supporting aptX codecs for lower latency or higher bitrates. They can do around FLAC bitrate already and later versions coming in 2024 can do more. Keep in mind, 192Kbit/s is crossover point for blind A - B listening tests when it comes to compression. So it's already beyond distinguishable gains in real world use. Typically, the compression program used makes a bigger difference for MP3 or similar. I agree with that 192kbps mark as a good minimum in decades of hifi with digital formats.

If windows doesn't run well on arm then I would just use Linux as there are many arm servers that use linux so it would have solid day 1 support.
Also there are many arm ports for linux apps as most are open source and one can complile them for arm easily.

And no need to comment that "linux is not for average user" and other stuff. Linux on desktop has evolved a lot in these years. All components of my Infinix laptop are supported by linux (even better sound quality on linux with Easy Effects).
One should try Linux in Live Boot or VM and see how it goes. Even installation of Linux (most beginner distros like Mint, Zorin, etc.) is simpler than Windows and it doesn't ask for any sign in and has no telemetry.

Snapdragon is already rocking in phones processors by snapdragon 8gen 3, but i think people will still use the 13/14900K with 4090

I kind of want to see them code a desktop version so we can see it in full use

There is always Linux. Box64 and Box86 can run x86 software like steam on arm.
